HighFlyHeli has a great layaway program

I purchased my 700E with them and it made it a lot easier to send a few payments instead of one huge one....
Great People too, Gregg and Dawn have great communication and are one of my go-to shops with free shipping on any purchase.

FYI, just sharing my experience, not affiliated in any way with them other than being a very happy customer

I have used the easy pay plan from tower quite a few times, but not for anything major. I am in the same boat for saving cash, it just seems to not like being around me. My bank offers 2 different savings clubs. A fall savings club that matures every october and is automatically transferred to my checking acount. The other is their anytime savings club which I pick the maturity date and if I want it to renew after every maturation period. I do have both accounts. The october is used for christmas shopping. I have the other setup to mature every 60 days. I have a set amount deposited into each account every other week, and can also deposit additional funds at will. The automatic deposit isn't a large amount but it works for me, It's the extra deposits I make that boost the bottom line. I can still get the money early if I need it for an emergency for a 5% service charge with exception to loss of job or hospitalization. Works well for me. I built my home brew system using the anytime account. It is going to pay for my next heli also.

The world is yours!

That sounds like a good system.
I personally have a separate savings account which contains yearly allowances for items such as property taxes, heating oil, etc, etc as well as my “Heli Savings”. A certain dollar amount gets put into it each week for these items. If I can’t afford to fix something from this savings then its back to the simulator for a while…
This works for me – each to there own – but definitely think it’s a good idea to have a system - otherwise you can drop a crap-load of money in a heartbeat in this hobby. The $50.00 here and the $100.00 there adds up really quick.
Of course the downside of this system is that it really makes you stop and think before trying a new maneuver. Do I REALLY want to try that???? – if I crash I’ll need to spend that money on repairs instead of saving up for that TRex 500……
Of course it really sucks when life throws you a curve-ball and the first thing to go is of course (you guessed it)……..the kid’s college education….. (Just kidding).
In addition I’m trying to be a good boy most of the time so Santa will bring me something nice….maybe my TRex???? If that doesn’t pan out maybe I’ll try to find a woman with a big pile of cash that’s into middle aged guys with a beer gut and male pattern baldness.

Not every 90 is $3k and in your analogy, $60 earned in interest is still making $60 off your money. I'm not going into my financials with you, but I can say its not the interest rate making the money, but rather the sum the interest rate is working off of
Well maybe you should just delete your post then. Obviously your making enough money to not have to worry about layaway. You don't have any idea what it's like to be in this guys shoes.

What a quality post. Acutally, I do, I have made and saved my money starting from nothing and having to scrape by month to month. Just because some people have money doesn't mean they don't know the value of a dollar. So much for your assumption of me, maybe you should delete your post. You have a lot of pinked and deleted post, maybe you should take your own advice and think before you speak.

Dude your the one telling this guy layaway is stupid because if he just put his money away he would make enough interest to pay for half a setup.
Just because some people have money
Sounds to me like I hit the nail on the head.

Guys no need to argue....

I still recommend you check out HighFlyHeli.com if you are thinking about layaway. $50 down and you can take as long as you need to pay and also change the order if you decide on a different item, with only the $50 loss if you completely want to back out

I did not tell him that, I said that what works out for me. and its taken a long time and a lot of dedication to get there. Lay away is still not a great idea unless its some rare item that can't be obtained anywhere else. Nice try at a comeback

Thank you STR8HUCKIN

That is exactly the type of post I was referring to when I made the comment about people passing judgment!

Some people think that if you cant afford the best stuff on the market you shouldn't be in the hobby. I think that thought process is idiotic.

My biggest question for these people is why do you worry about what me or anyone else does with there money? Im not spending your cash! nor is anyone else in the world. So you have money and you worked hard for it!!! I may not have as much money as you but I work just as hard for it as you.

Another example of passing judgment.
saw a guy once with a fleet of very nice heli's and no teeth.
You make it sound like that person was stupid and poor! What if he had an accident before he had a dental plan or just enough cash to fix them? He could be a millionaire now and just cant get used to eating/ talking with dentures.

Ok I think I vented enough.

Oh! and thank you to everyone that didn't rush to judge people and stuck to the subject of the thread.

I have checked a few of the sugjestions out and they look pretty good. I like espritmodels plan the most. That and the idea of a savings that matures every 3 - 6 months. Ill have to check into that. Thanks.

Some peoples mothers never told them. " If you dont have anything nice to say . Dont say anything at all!.

lol OK I'm Done! lol

There was a hobby shop that wasn't very far from me and they stocked lots of heli parts. They would allow layaways on big ticket items. I have used it from time to time. They had to close their doors to provide long term care for a family member. I had a layaway with them when they were closing, the owner gave me the item for what I had paid on it. He decided to liquidate as much as he could before it went for auction. In his mind he would rather have sold the stuff for what he could get instead of loose it all to the bank. I also scored quite a few other very good deals on parts and equipment. I made the 75 mile drive once a week just to bs for a few minutes and get whatever caught my eye. I sure do mis that shop.

What I or others may think isn't a good idea, others may think is just fine. As for advising people to stay out of the hobby if you need to worry about money for repairs and upgrades. That comment does not do much for promoting the hobby. If I want something, I don't dip into money that is needed for bills, and I don't touch the savings account. I either wait until my savings club comes due or put in a few more hours of work everytime I get the chance. I have a set amount of my check that goes for bills, into regular savings, and the rest goes to my savings club accounts. I have done the pull out my credit card thing years ago, and that didn't turn out so good. I now only have one card, and if I do get stupid enough to max it out for some dumb reason, I can pay it off within the month.

We need to promote the hobby, not scare people away.

The world is yours!

I don't take any money away from my bills. My wife is very cool about letting me spend money in the hobby. But that would definitely not fly on her field. lol

This hobby tends to be a little on the pricey side. BUT it does not have to be crazy expensive. Its is only as pricey as you let it be.

I try to recruit as many new pilots as I can. That is not a difficult task. lol

My home town once had 2 hobby shops. Now there is only 1 and its a joke of a hobby shop. Mainly just RC cars and comic books. The nearest real hobby shop to me is about 60min away.

I like the "easy pay" options where it divides the amount by 3 and then charges my card 3 consecutive months

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

+1 I like how I can get good dicounts on top of the easy pay. They don't have a lot of heli stuff but they rock if you race rc.

Yes, I did pass a little judgment and for that I'm sorry.

I guess my main gripe with a lawaway is you are painting yourself in a corner. I mean, the shops intentions can be all good, but once they have your money and you really need it for say something unexpected, now you are gambling they will make good on their words. Not the ideal picture in my opinion. Lawaway may be ok if you don't have cash right away for some rare and unique item and don't want to miss out. I did laway once on a one of a kind handmade Indian art bracelet for my girl. Didn't quite have the funds for it at the exact moment, but laway allowed them to hold it for me. Otherwise, common item layaway doesn't make much sense at all no matter how you look at it.
