Well, truth be told-- not really. Buy a King 3, take it out of the box and fly it, that would be flying a Honey bee King 3 out of the box. This hobby is a very personal experience, I am not going to tell you what to do. Unless you ask me to

well if you must ask

I just looked at your "set up" and I dont see one e-sky part listed.I mean it doesn't really matter to me but I would think once you swap out the frame head and tail its no longer e-sky,but a custom built heli.its e-sky based but it is what it is.all that matters is that you DO fly it

In chargers first of all I search for safety and reliability and for sure performing at advertised rate. Maybe iCharger is better/more safe/reliable,
In the 300 watt and under catagory, the iChargers have an edge over FMA. I'd put the edge in total wattage output and flexibility, but not in safety or reliability.

One week and no update in the Esky forum. Anyway, no flying for me. Accidentally left my DX7 on. The battery drained and now its giving "BACKUP ERROR" message. Only cure is a trip to Horizon for brain restoration. A little fodder for the Futaba fans. Have at it.

Sorry to hear this. Was there... Now I have kind of paranoia - checking that I switched off Tx, when I passby. Btw, I use now LiFe Hyperion battery. I like it very much. Much more capacity and as such less chances of 'Backup error'. And it can be charged inside Tx by standard charger. Now I charge Tx probably once a month, really, I forgot that it was an issue - Tx charge.

The battery that drained was the first charge on my new Hyperion LifeP04. That is one cool battery setup for the DX7. Battery voltage is 10.75 to 9v, so no concerns of over voltage like the lipos. Plus you can charge the battery with the DX7 wall wart.

It is kind of hilarious, that I advised you to use this battery and you report that it happened on a first charge. Really sorry of this, because you are grounded. Battery is for sure good, but it does not prevent from 'Backup error'. Sorry again.

On a positive note, I got prepared for winter flying. My 4G6 is repaired and flies very nice and I managed to get good blades (quality varies fron vendor to vendor). Not sure of inverted in a room though....But if I install new ESC, maybe it will have more power. People report that stock ESC gets tired, not sure I believe this that much, but worth trying.

I thought that was funny as well. But in case any one gets the wrong idea, this is not the fault of the battery.

Timing is actually not that bad. Weather is supposed to be bad this weekend and Horizon says they have a 4 day turn around. So I may get it back before I can fly again anyway. I suspect I will have to recreate all my models. Something I'm not looking forward to since I stopped making a paper copy of my settings a long time ago. Most settings I can do from memory. But the sub trim and ATV settings for a perfectly level swash will require removal of the heads on all my helis.

Heh. It took me 1.5 months about. Mainly border crossing. In between, I bought another used one. Yeah, Tx will come back clean. . At least that was with mine. I made helis one by one then, slowly.

Ouch Greg, I got kinda lucky. Battery drained on my Dx7 while it was plugged to the computer (just got the Phoenix) a few days ago. Luckily I don't have to send it back.

My FBL conversion on the Hirobo SDX is nearly complete. I should receive my Skookum 720 by tomorrow or Monday, which is the remaining part. I also upgraded to a OS55 and Funtech Pipe. I'll let you fly it once I tune the unit.

Thanks Andy. I'd love to give it try. Is that a Hirobo FBL head, or aftermarket?

Fortunately the DX7 makes a horrible beeping sound, a last deperate gasp before the battery dies. If you can shut it off while its still beeping, you'll be fine. I've accidentally tested this a couple times. More than once, my wife has called to me about something in trouble in the garage. This time however, the DX7 was stoed safely away it is new case which did a nice job of muffling the sound.

Greg, it's the stock plastic head with very small modifications. I did however, purchase a Century swash driver. The Hirobo swash driver is only available in Germany and shipping is ridiculous.

I had not heard of losing all model programs because the transmitter was left on and the battery drained. Also, only recently did I hear that some guys are concerned about the alleged 'overcharge' issues with lipos in transmitters. As usual, without much research before purchasing, I got lipos in both of my DX7s a couple of years ago. I've always charged all lipo tx batteries to the max (12.6v) and never had any problems. I've left both transmitters on for days serveral times each and just charged up these drained lipos with no program loss or damage to the battery or radio. Am I just lucky or are some of the tx lipo horror stories exaggerated?

You are just lucky. My Tx died with 'Backup Error' which can be repaired only at HH. Not surprisingly, it came back to me 'clean'. Unfortunately it happens often with DX7. Just make a search on keyword: 'Backup error' and DX7, here or in Google.
