Ren, you forgot to mention the seven expansion disks, for $33.oo dollars a shot, for an additional cost of $231.oo

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

If every Phoenix update since 1.0 has been free, I guess it wins in that department.

As for expansion packs, I don't care one way or the other. The first 5 or 6 expansion packs that RF put out can be downloaded for free from their website. The Add-on packs cost money, but after flying for a number of years and many different helis, I don't really care what my sim-heli is......as long as it looks like a real heli and flies like a real heli, I could care less about the particular model. If you HAVE to have a certain one, download it off the swap pages or buy the addon pack. It's your choice.

Personally, since I got RF5 ( which was just an update CD from v4), I loaded up the FBL heli it comes with, found a nice grass field, and have flown nothing but that. It's my 3d skills I'm working on.....not sight-seeing. The feel translates very closly to my Vbar-ed real helis.

I've compared RF4.5 and Phoenix2.0 physics back to back, and found RF physics to be more realistic. On Phoenix I found the helis flew too perfect and were too easy. Example: in a funnel or hurricane: on Phoenix if I got the sticks in the right place, it would just keep doing them foreever. In RF, a fast hurricane takes some stick work to keep at the same altitude and speed. Maybe Phoenix3 is better ?

OH, Ren, you forgot to add the price of a TX into the Phoenix column!!!

In the end, fly what makes you happy. If you feel Phoenix is closer to your real heli, then fill your boots with that. I'll stick to RF-G5.5 for now.

Same here. I started with a Trex 600 on the sim but found that the logo 10S vbar flew closest to my vbared 600 in real life. This is all I fly. Like you, I only use the sim to progress my skills, not sight see.

To me RF is a little harder than my real life 600. For example during funnels I have to really work the tail on RF, where on my real heli I can lock in much easier. So the sim actually helps my skills because it exagerates (at least my logo 600 sim heli) some of the things that could potentially go wrong in real life.

Actually the add-on are the free downloads and the expansion packs cost. I agree with you that you should find one heli and stick with it; however, I want to know how they all feel so I can get an idea of whats what.

OH, Ren, you forgot to add the price of a TX into the Phoenix column!!!
I did buy a tx for my HELIS not for my sim, that's why I did not add it to that column. Ooh I forgot in Phoenix use your own tx for more deep set up of your sim Heli and more realistic feeling.

But I can say that is cool to have a bounch of dummies tx at home after buy a new version of G5 Or to have every 3 months another sim to put up for sale in the classify.

My LHS said that using the dummy tx's are good as it doesn't wear out your real tx with constant usage.

I don't really know for sure but I do know that the dummy tx at the shop is really worn out, not sure if I would want my real tx taking exta abuse if I don't have to.

Sounds like were cooking with gas....

Ooh....so I can wear out my real radio after hours of winter sim-ing. Excellent ! I'm with Adaboy on this one.

If you really need to make sure you can still do a move using your real Tx, you can still use it too with RF.

And more deep setup of your sim heli ??? Obviously you have never gone into the RF G5 model editor. You can tweak every aspect of the model. Phoenix doesn't come close in this respect.
But I can say that is cool to have a bounch of dummies tx at home after buy a new version of G5 Or to have every 3 months another sim to put up for sale in the classify.
That is why you would buy the upgrade for 1/3 the cost of the full package and just use the controller from the previous version.

I started with G2 full package, skipped G3 (used Reflex for a while), bought the full package for G4 to get the new controller so that I could do menu selection directly from the TX, free upgrade to 4.5, bought the update to G5 for $80, and just got the free upgrade to 5.5.
So only 2 controllers............ primary and backup, and minimal costs.

Tell it like it is. Giving only the positives of your favorite product and then only the negative aspects or half-truths of competing products doesn't help anyone looking for honest advice. I'll be the first to agree that if you don't have a gaming class computer, stick to Phoenix as it will give you the more realistic heli experience. However, don't get me started on the Phoenix sound effects.
