There are some limits
10/88 (8.8:1) @ about 1500rpm, so 13,200rpm on the 26.
13200....damn if after breaking in my spectra I can get get to 13200 she will be pulling like fox
While running such a high number gear ratio will allow the motor to rev up so much at low head speeds, vertical performance may be limited due to the slow head speed.

Sure you can put 14 degrees of pitch and hold 1500 head speed (for example) at that gear ratio, but at a lower ratio of somewhere around 7:1 you'd be able to climb faster with less pitch and more head speed.

There is some balance where you get the best bang for the buck, in the case stated above, I feel that the motor will be revving more than necessary and not getting anywhere fast.

Today was an awesome flying day at the field, surrounded by friends and a combined fleet of about 10 helis outnumbering the airplane pilots by a factor of 3:1, I wished it would never end!

So Raja, are you suggesting that my 1500rpm @ 8.8:1 is turning the engine too fast? Or were you just refering to the spectra? I figured i would just keep the stock condor gear ratio due to the very high mass of the head.

Well
You can turn the engine at 13k, but I consider that towards the peak of what you want to turn it at. I usually keep my heli motors running between 12,500 and 12,800 max.

Give it a try and see how it works for you. My thoughts would be if I was flying it that this motor is 'screaming' and the head is barely turning if you know what I mean.

My mistake on that one, maybe i miscounted or somehow ended up with a 10 tooth on my condor.

Ok thanks guys, i appreciate the comments on the gearing. Let you know once i get some more time on it.
