There are some limits
10/88 (8.8:1) @ about 1500rpm, so 13,200rpm on the 26.
While running such a high number gear ratio will allow the motor to rev up so much at low head speeds, vertical performance may be limited due to the slow head speed.
13200....damn if after breaking in my spectra I can get get to 13200 she will be pulling like fox
Sure you can put 14 degrees of pitch and hold 1500 head speed (for example) at that gear ratio, but at a lower ratio of somewhere around 7:1 you'd be able to climb faster with less pitch and more head speed.
There is some balance where you get the best bang for the buck, in the case stated above, I feel that the motor will be revving more than necessary and not getting anywhere fast.
Today was an awesome flying day at the field, surrounded by friends and a combined fleet of about 10 helis outnumbering the airplane pilots by a factor of 3:1, I wished it would never end!
