You almost scared me! No....that was left over oil from the previous flight. I had to look! Thanks for noticing.

gotnoclue,

Take your time and enjoy the build.

gouki, thanks! Now I wonder if someone (like canomode) paints other canopy schemes besides the stock ones...

Mr. rcnut,

What do you use as a switch between the Sahara regulator and battery pack? Thanks!

ssmith512,
I use a regular switch, 12Vdc @ 20Amps. The switch fits nicely under the canopy and easy to turn on and off.

specialtydevice,
A good majority of the parts are available, more and more are being added to the list. This is one great heli to fly!

Well.....the dreaded day finally came! I put my Rave in trying a down wind, inverted auto with a forward flip and tail prio. I lost the head speed in the forward flip.

I tried to switch out of heading hold, but forgot the delay was set to 2 seconds, oops! The damage wasn't that bad, landing gear, right frame, both front frames, pinion gear housing, bottom frame stiffener, vertical tail fin, tail rotor control rod (long) from when the vertical fin broke, blade grip links, blade grip control ball (only one of, will replace the other) blade grip bearings (just the one side), and 710mm Radix blades.

Have most of the parts, only three of them on back order. Now if they can get here before the SNOW!!! So now that that crash is out of the way, I can fly like I stole it!

Update on my 700 motor problem, the jelousy continues!
Also a new piston and ring will be here tomorrow for my Trex 700N. The connecting rod broke last week in flight. I was losing air pressure around the rubber fitting on the fuel tank. I had pulled that assembly out many times to replace the tank tubing....
This was from page 1 of this post. After the rebuild, flight 5 ended with the motor breaking yet another connecting rod! This time...I ordered the YS 3DS motor! I'm done for the most part with the Align/O.S. motors. Well...until spring, I might buy replacement parts one more time for this monster. I think the crankshaft pin is bent slightly, this would explain breaking the connecting rod......again!

Finally received the rest of the parts needed to finish fixing my Rave. The only problem I have now is "SNOW" we have rain mixed with snow in the forecast for Tuesday. So much for the test flight, however, no accumulation!

On a side note, the 700 has a new YS 3D motor installed and waiting for the first flight with it.

Exactely my point. Never ever ever ever ever ever buy something that just comes out. Didnt people learn their lesson with the Avant?

specialtydevice,

Yes, I learned that lesson even though I was on the first pre-order list. I didn't have a problem with my Aurora until this year. 83 flights without a crash.

As for the back ordered parts for my Rave, I found them at other heli websites (a friend of mine found them for me). So now I have everything needed to complete the repair, plus some extra parts.

However, Curtis is not or like Avant. Curtis actually delivers! One of the parts that I needed was one blade grip, which I thought I could fix. The control ball link broke off in the crash, leaving the threads in the grip. I though I could remove the screw remains and reuse the blade grip...wrong!

I called Buzzen Brian and explained my situation and he helped me to find a replacement blade grip. I am very impressed with the "way above" customer service this company provides!!!

So to answer your question...yes, I will buy a newly released heli from Curtis Youngblood Enterprise. I know they will support their product, help me with any problems that might arise, even if that means sending them my heli for them to trouble shoot and fix. Yea, the parts may be slow coming, but not for too much longer

is it that great a heli? i got burned with new helis that just came out. i stick with the trexx700 due to parts availability. even though align parts are crap you can always get them, locally too. the best part is every third party manufacturer makes parts for it too. the only thing align on my 700 is the boom and landing skids.third party parts are far better than the crap align parts. i have a fury 55 and i feel ma is burning us on that bird. parts not always available and too pricey. i wanted go flybarless but the ma flybarless head is almost $300. Comeon! for a 50? hard to believe the parts on my 700 are cheaper than ma's 50 size, i mean a third cheaper! and thats the third party manufacturers better quality parts! Ive decided not to buy another MA after this fury 55.

+1

Rave parts are on par price wise with Align parts, except you dont need to buy 3rd party parts.

+1 and one of the major factors in my decision in getting a Rave (I had a T700, and enjoyed it). Stock parts quality is excellent and it flies very well.
