This little LED of mine
Working mostly on the instrument panels right now. I ripped (ever so gently) the center console apart so I could install the radar screen and electronics. This will take a bit more work. So tonight I made a back light out of two white LEDs and a chunk of clear plexiglass. There is a little dark edge at the top of the main instrument cluster due to the large mounting flange. Not much I can do about it, and it will be very hard to see once installed anyway. So I am not going to sweat it.

I think the back light worked out pretty well. In the photo the LEDs are running at a constant current of approx 15mA each. Once installed in the cockpit and connected to the drive electronics I am building, they will be PWM controlled with up to 100mA at a 10% duty cycle. That should bring them to (life) light.

I can crash anything..

Thanks Chapter.. It's getting there.. Want to make an animated radar screen for the cockpit too..

Good Job Brokenrotors.. I also had the problem with the frame interfering with the back lighting around the gauges also.. took my Dremel and rounded it out where the gauges were..

Took mine for a spin around a school gym tonight, didn't have any vibrations like some said when running a 13T pinion. I ordered a light kit for it from Bphobbies and going to get some graphics on it and then wait for the weather to get better

Looks very nice davidjc. Did it come pre-painted or did you paint it?

If you did, what kind and colors are those paints?

Thanks, Steve.

It was PrePainted. I applied the graphics (Callie) then cleared it with flat to tone down the stickers. I had to sand off some numbers and tried to match the paint and had to use a couple of paints and still didn't get exactly matched, just mixed and blended using a air brush.
It's a stand way off scale

Looks Great!!!
Hi Grant,

Your Defender is looking awesome. I love the way you setup the bottom strobe. I am going to steal that idea for mine. Looks like opted not to do the radar screen. The console was pretty darn small to work in for sure.

How did you do your skid lighting? I have an idea for mine, but it's nice to see how others do things. Did you post it and I missed it?

You built this pretty fast. Was your's pre-painted? I sure wish I would have bought mine painted, what a pain for a non-painter guy.

Anyway, it looks great. Can't wait to see the first flight video.
