Free Flight with my Raptor 30v1

Forgot to turn on my receiver and my heli was set free, Very fortunate that it started with neg pitch and slow head speed! It just sat on the ground and ran for 30 min till out of fuel.

Or do the FunkyChicken
Went from a 9C to 8FG and now fly with my middle finger on the hold switch so that I'll not be doing the funkychicken ever again! It's amazing how much less damage is down when a heli goes in without power verses power. Oh and yes, I do the control surface check before taking off. This has helped me diagnose the wrong model in my radio more than 20 times and saved some heartache as well.
High Voltage just works better

if you can get a pair of wooden arrow shafts, lash 'em together and stick the pointed end up the muffler, works like a charm.AMA 700159

ShuRugal,

Arrow shaft ... are you speaking from personal experience?

I was there, and if we had a long enough stick we would have folded the flexible muffler diverter tube. But alas .... no long stick.

Very fortunate to get away with a clean bill of health (both you and the heli) on that one! Waiting 30 mins must have been a bummer though! I bet it felt like hours

I only fire up my Rappy AFTER the gyro has initialised (therefore the Rx is already on).

ShuRugal,

Arrow shaft ... are you speaking from personal experience?
yes indeed. second time i fired up my Nexus, i discovered that the throttle arm on the carburetor was hand-folded from a piece of aluminum. I discovered this after i got it shut off on inspection... aluminum don't like being folded, it fatigues, and eventually breaks... two arrows lashed together made a perfect muffler plug.

Its a 30, and they run 20 minutes in the air, not suprising it ran 30 minutes off idle on the ground.

I had a buddy do the same thing one time on his driveway. He forgot to the heli on. I think he is still trying to get the oil off the concrete. lolIt's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

I had shuttle zx do the run by it's self syndrome when the battery connection came undone .
It was about 20 minutes waiting for it to run out of fuel
Fortunately all I was doing at the time was testing it and was still on the ground now the connections are zip tied toghter

We were setting up my Raptor 50 all day-forgot to check the battery once we were done-it went full throttle once it hit the floor and the guy helping me felt so bad it was doing the chicken dance he reached in and pulled the fuel line-he ended up cleaning his cuts with alcohol and using super glue to stitch himself-always check your batteries!

Man I probably shouldn't be admitting this-after that last story-but here's my other woopsie-So I had 2 Raptors on my Spectrum-I never erased the empty one since it never dawned on me to do that-so yup-I started the heli with the wrong Raptor selected and it went full throttle in my hands-luckily I had it by the blade grips and I was able to yank the line fairly easily. So two things I do now EVERY time I start my helis-check to make sure batteries are charged and I have connectivity between my transmitter and receiver!
