I have been looking for a pipe for my YS56. I called Tammies Hobbies, which is near where I live, and the guy there insisted that the MP5-sb would work fine on my motor. But, from what I have read that seems to be contradictory.. I was running an outrage H55, but it bit the dust recently, and don't want to be disappointed by some random setup he's trying to push on me.. Will the MP5-sb perform like the H55? I would appreciate any input on the subject...

These are known-good choices:

for 3D:
Hatori 566 ( in some markets sold as Hatori SAB-55 )
Funtech B320

for F3C:
Hatori 561 or 562
( same pipe but shorter/longer manifold, respectively )

Why not get the Outrage pipe that is made for that engine? I have the H56, and it has been awesome.

Outrage 56 is the best pipe for power and tuning I've found. Cheap too. 2nd choice would be the Funtech B320

...could be just me, but these names like "Outrage" "Insane" "Kool" "RotorRage" and all other over-the-top supa-dupa kool names are a definite turn-off for me...

...but whatever - different strokes for different folks

also imho there is no such thing as "the best AND cheapest" - I have even seen "bestest and cheepest" and all that.. it's usually either "the best" or else "quite cheap and still good enough", IMHO...

I'm not flying the 56 engine, but I have been experimenting with different pipes for my engines. I used to use the MP pipes, but found that in order to be in the optimum power band, I had to run my RPM's much higher than I liked, so I switched over to try the Funtech pipes and so far have been happy with the power I have seen. I find that they tune well and I can reach a broader power band range with the Funtech's than I did with the MP's.

The Hatori's are known to be great pipes as well, but for the $$ and all the research I did, I didn't come up with any conclusive evidence that the Hatori would run any better than the Funtech for the price.

I would maybe try the B320 and see if you like it. If not, you can always try another brand.

PS: I've never run the Outrage pipe, but I did have a friend that did on his 700 and it really ran VERY poorly. So poorly infact, that we thought it was some kind of governor issue, as he had no power, his throttle curves weren't being followed and the heli just sounded sick. We fiddled with it forever and finally he put on a standard Align pipe and it flew great. I've never seen an engine perform so poorly all due to a pipe, but seeing was believing and so I was not impressed with the Outrage pipe in the least, but that's just from my observation.

A few people at my local club use Outrage pipes for the various engine sizes and we're all happy with them. I know that the first ones to hit the market had issues with baffles coming loose. Could it be that the 90 size pipe you're referring to was faulty?
