Man, it really sounds like spektrum took just about everything we all wish we had and stuffed it in this radio!

I'm seriously contemplating dumping my X9503 for this radio.

8 Channels, so us Nitro guys won't have to jump through hoops to get a SwitchGlo to work, 11ms response time, telemetry, quad bearing gimbals, SD card, any type of TX battery, e-ring for cyclic.

looking good!

I think I am going to buy this thing; it has allot of very cool features.

One thing I don't understand however: It seems like Horizon distributes two product lines that are in direct competition with each other? I had a DX7, when they put the DSM technology in the 9303, I traded up because I have been a long time JR guy.

I Like the programming and the Styling of JR.

So this begs the question, if I buy the DX8, are they going to turn around and put the same software in the 9503 and call the 9603 next year??

And correct me if I am wrong, but it seems like the DX8 has more features then 10X and the 11X? For half the price. Is there that much more money involved in the transmitter styling?

I mean, why not just put all the programming in the 11X and call it done?

I was looking at the 11X, now it is out of the question because DX8 has more features for half the price. Seems like an odd marketing strategy for Horizon.

Anyway, does any body know when the DX8 will be available?

I dont have any inside info but I guess the Spektrum features and timeline is driven by Horizon or at least NOT JR-Japan.

So, in that event, there are 2 semi-competing product lines that happen to use the same modulation techinque.

Or maybe it's just that. JR was late to 2.4G and bought Spektrum technology to jumpstart themselves and in return, Spektrum gets a manufacturing partner.

Not quite correct....

Spektrum were doing the 2.4 GHz for the cars and Horizon/Spektrum made a deal with JR to fit the 2.4 GHz into the JR transmitters.

2.4 GHz caught on OUTSIDE Japan big style. Within Japan it was very limited due to the power levels in place.

JR started to work on their own system for outside Japan but came up against a very large non-technical stumbling block. This mean that if they wanted to get into the 2.4 GHz market, they had to ally themselves with Horizon/Spektrum.

Hence the compatibility of JR DSM2 and Spektrum DSM2 (they are identical apart from where they are built). The DX6, DX7 as you probably know are based on the XP662 and 7202. Spektrum then came out with the DX6i, DX5i and now the DX8 and DX10. These are NOT made by JR.

When the DX7 came out with 2.4 DSM, it was such a no brainer, that people, (myself included) dropped there $1000 TX to eliminate the FM single point of failure. When DSM was offered in the JR line, I went there. I just sold my 9303 to a friend, thinking I was going to buy 12X or 11X. But, Spektrum has pulled a rabbit out of their hat again with the telemetry deal.

The TX with gives a stick shaker when your battery is low?... How can you beat that? What’s next, low head speed warning?...ground proximity warning?.....Credit Card Over Limit Warning.

Sold.

Spectrum 8 ch
I say this radio at IRCHA. To me it looks just like the earlier radios, nothing special in the looks dept. But, the Telemetry it has and the TX Vibrates when there is a issue.

Personaly, I did not like it as much as the 11X. I bought the 11X at IRCHA and saved 100.00.

From what I have heard from the reps in the UK everybody that has touched it has said the same thing.
people are making comparisons with the dx6i and the radio is completely new design and feel.
Just wish I could have one.

Good luck

yes even if they look same they simply are NOT. There are many different edges and shaping in the way it feels. They had the DX6 right beside it and then you can see all the different details, it feels nothing like the 6 at all period. I was VERY skeptical and after feeling it, looking through the menus it is a very easy choice and 100% honest the best feeling radio in every way I seen/felt for sure.

Here's an idea for the Folks at Spektrum, offer custom TX face plates.

What if you could replace the current face plate with an all pre-preg carbon one? Or Silver S glass? or painted pearle white with some silver designs inbeded.......

They allready have the CNC file for the tool, so you just cut a few face side only molds out of Aluminum, and have custom face plates made.

This would alow people to personalize there transmitter.

I would pay $80 to $100 to have an all carbon face plate on a DX8.

I know how to do it; I just don't have the time. I have bigger fish to fry these days. Trying to keep the hobby "a hobby"

But it could be done quite easily however, especially for someone with the resources of Horizon/Spektrum at their disposal.

Or how about little wings on the antenna, or maybe a prop on the front that spins to give you the wind speed

For those who attended the IRCHA seminar, how do the eCCPM compensation mixers work in the DX8? I'm referring to discreet mixers to correct for cyclic>PIT interactions.

Dr. Ben,
I'm also curious how the dx8 compares to the 8fg when it comes to eccpm programming features. The manual for the dx8 is now available and page 27 doesn't show anything too special in this respect.

What's your opinion on how they compare?

Thanks and I look forward to your assesment.
