I'm a newb to AP and am putting together a FBL 700N e conversion. I have a 12S setup and am looking for recommendations on headspeed and blade choice. Can find lots of info for flybar, but was hoping to gets some FBL input. 4035-500 and helicommand rigid.

I've got a FBL 700E running 12S for AP. I went for the Curtis Youngblood FBL blades which run super smooth and lift a 5DmkII with ease. I have just installed a Xera motor with the KDE mounting plate to get the headspeed down. I had 1900RPM at 70% throttle with the stock setup which flew too agile for my liking. Its now 1600RPM by putting in the lower Kv motor and it's much nicer to hover and fly.
I'm using the Rigid also with no prob's

keep the headspeed very low, I would say somewhere in the 1500 range on a governor and you should see flight times up in the 8 min range.

thanks for the info. You've given me a starting point. I was thinking 1700-1800, so I'm sure you guys have saved me grief. Thanks! I'll post back with results.

Hi KiwiMatt,
what is your all up weight for AP on this 700E with Curtis Youngblood FBL blades?
What sort of an AP setup? Underslung / front ?

I was running 1,450rpm very smooth on my 9kg front mount E700 with NHP 80cm carbons. I found out that they were no good for autos I am switching to Vario #420s. They should have that umph for an auto.

Hi Ahmet,
i haven't weighed the rig yet. I'm using a underslung vr360 for photography only with a 5DmkII.

How did you get your headspeed that low? Throttle, pinion or motor or all?

I have a set of NHP 80cm blades on my Maxi Joker. I didn't know you could use them as i thought you may get blade strike. I haven't yet had to auto ;-)

main gear = 164
pinion = 17
motor = Xera 4035/3y-400
Lipos = 10S 7400 Flight Power
esc = Schulze Future 32.80K
AUFW = 9.6kg
mRotor = 180cm
mBlades = NHP 80cm
mRotor rev = 1,460rpm

I built an extended tBoom (an extra 10cm) to get it in the safe zone.
Cheers,
Ahmet
