Can anyone explain the step by step of setting up a Master and Student buddy box system with two 8FG radios?

I do have the Futaba trainer cord.

First off what is the type of model that you are trying to BB? Most of what you need is in the manual starting at pg 42. I will be glad to help you out as needed. Send me PM with tele# if that works better for you

To start with get the model flying and adjusted to the master tx. Next i would recommend that you then match the pitch and throttle curves on both tx's { dont forget hover throttle and pitch settings also}. I would then recommend these trainer settings

throttle and pitch ---- normal
aile,ele,gain and rudder ---- function

I dont recommend pit and thr to be mixed in trainer mode in any way because it is to hard to follow and keep their functions in the proper place relitive to stick position.

I use function on aile, ele, gain and rudder so that you dont need to worry about the setting in the trainer tx.

when you use function all the settings for these channels use the master tx settings and you will have what i like to call " forced persuasion" . this is where you can give the heli a nudge or make a correction for the student with out taking the model away from the student. you can also adjust the percentage of throw you give to the student.

If you want to hover train I would recommend that you use "off" for the pit and thr at the start so you can control this function while giving the student time to learn the other three controls. then as they progress use " normal" settings for thr and pit but be cautious that I find it difficult to keep up with these controls in a hover so that if you need to take total control of the bird it may climb or descend rapidly if you are not on the spot with stick when you release the trainer switch.

I personally use other methods to hover train that i find easier then BBing but in the air it is a great solution as a training aid.

Tom
edit be sure to bench test all setting before starting up for the first time

I know this thread is pretty old, but to setup a trainer system with 2 8fg's, I would think it would be easiest to just pull the sd card and copy it to the slave radio, that way everything is identical.

Hi !
Hi !

You don't have to copy model. Just Set your 8FG to Trainer, select the trainer switch you want and connect the futaba 8FG special cable for trainer !!

IT's very easy !

There is many features within the trainer system that can be utiltised beyond just trainer and go.what you choose is up to how you wish to train you student.

When I took the flight training class with Bobby Watts and Matt Botos, they both copied my radio info to theirs via SD card, they said it was the easiest way. What am I missing?

It does work that why, but it's not the only way. Also with the 8FG you can decided how much control you give you student.

Hi guys,

Ok, I have 2 T8FGs to use as a training system. I have a couple of questions to ask as I am a complete noob at this.

1. What model do you need setup on the student's Tx?

2. Should I see identical servo movements between the instructor and student under "Servos" in the MDL and LNK menus?

3. Do I ignore the servo display, and just risk seeing what it does on the model?

I have tried just plugging the student Tx in as slave, but I don't see the same servo movements as what the Instructors control input does, also I have copied the model to the students Tx but still nothing changes.

The Futaba manual is not clear, and there is absolutely nothing in the way of a "youtube" help video clips that I can find.

Can anyone help.

Thanks in advance.
