Whew! I thought it was never going to get here but stayed calm and patiently waited. Exhaling now............

I did a cursory inspection of the box contents and am very impressed with this, the latest of Jan's designs. Very clean machine work, excellent attention to detail. Can't wait to start the build and experience the thrill of flight

Now if only the quality of the packing of the shipping box was up to the same standards as the kit contained within...

Meaning:

As I was collecting the box from being delivered, I tipped it and heard things moving/shifting inside. The box was pretty well crushed along its width and my USPS delivery guy commented, "I hope you had that package insured." On opening it, I saw there was little internal support to protect the canopies. Yes, 2 -- I purchased a spare in a contrasting color. The canopies were nicely nested together and helped with making the pair more resistant to crushing. The decals were rolled up and placed inside the canopy cavity but I also ordered spare parts, most of which were in a small but well filled zip plastic bag. This bag tore loose from the small piece of packing tape that was supposed to hold it secured inside the big box. If the bag containing the parts was wrapped with some of that heavy brown paper and placed inside the canopies there would have been no place for it to go and would have helped support the canopy structure even better. Something I'll have to suggest to Jan when I talk to him.

There was another zippered bag containing all the carbon parts taped to one side of the master box but the end of the bag ripped open allowing all the carbon bits to thrash around the big box interior. Again no damage but it could have been otherwise. Lastly was the main interior box containing the heli kit small parts and it stayed taped securely to the end of the shipping box. It was perfectly OK.

I hate to complain about shipping and packing practices and I know Jan is a solo army of one in this business but a kit of this cost and distance to deliver really deserves better attention to how it's wrapped up. The brown paper used to fill the majority of the box interior was a good start but there should have been even more space filler to help give the box more rigidity and act as a limiter of motion of other items.

Sure glad all arrived intact. Anyone else have any scary stories of their TDR's delivery or am I the only one? Please, before someone tells me "What are you complaining about? You got it safe and sound", I want to just mention it's by shear luck that there was no damage done. There was really no safety reserve here, all was used up in the DE-to-USA transport.

I want to start the build so bad but I have to wait a couple weeks. I promised to show a friend the kit parts as-shipped, before any assembly is started. It will be at least two weeks before that time has passed

I think I have all I need equipment-wise but I may change my mind at a moment's notice. I have a few options on servos, receiver power source and ESC. I'll settle on something as time draws closer. Maybe I'll post pictures, maybe not. Dealing with pictures more than double the build time, for me at any rate. Heck, you've all seen this heli as posted by other members -- nothing special about mine -- except to me

Yes the packing needs improvement IMHO, myself and 3 of my friends had damaged items and really think it needs to be packed better.

But anyway enjoy the build and do post some pics.

So it looks like I was lucky having zero damage. Sorry to hear you and friends were less so. Did Jan help you out at all by covering the damages?

I may have pictures of my build but what could I offer that hasn't already been shown? Ah, here's a suggestion -- Let me know if there's something in particular you'd like to see and I can then concentrate on providing good details of that. I do have a bigger (photo) job ahead of me with my e-Caliber 90 documentation. There's custom parts in that one unlike the TDR which I'm expecting to remain purely stock.

Ok, let me have it!

1. Take pic of kit-parts as shipped, before any assembly (for friend)

2. Get busy buildin'

Mine will be finished by weekend

Fondle the real parts? Yikes!

Tell you what, I ordered my TDR kit last week. Let's swap. You send me yours and I'll build it. When I get mine in a couple of weeks (fingers crossed), I'll send you the kit, unbuilt, so your buddy can see it and fondle the parts. LOL!

I don't know I'm thinkin' you may give-in before then

Thanks for the good-luck, mines goin' together quite-smoothly

E-Sheep,
If by ordered you mean, put your name on the reservation-list, I believe you would be looking at getting your kit somewhere around Jan/Feb of 2011. If you get the opportunity to pick one up before then (new or used) you are indeed-fortunate.

I doubt it. Other projects need attention first. Besides, I have to clear the workbench of those projects (and clear my head) before wrenching on the TDR. Gawd, there's so much to do! Read my sig

Send Jan an email about this, surely he'll look after you, I had the end of my boom crushed due to the lack of packaging.

He needs to buy a pallet of bubble rap :-)

I'm sorry to hear that. At least you can get everything else built while you wait for a new canopy.

@HilliHeli - I've been on the waiting list since last November... And just got a note that my kit (and spare parts) shipped.
From: Henseleit Helicopters <shopping@henseleit-helicopters.de>
Date: 2010/8/17
Subject: Statusänderung Ihrer Bestellung

Anmerkung zu Ihrer Bestellung:

Der Status Ihrer Bestellung wurde geändert.

(I think I got the notification because of the spare parts order).

w00t!

@heli_headcase: I didn't think you'd swap kits, but hey, my philosophy is always "if you don't ask -- you don't get." There's no way that *I* could let that kit sit in my garage... Lonely in the box, all by itself.

I'm not that "cruel", my TDR is comfortably waiting in my bedroom The garage is full of other, less deserving helicopters

I Am...
Everything happens in time. My plans to show my kit as disassembled, fell through and I refused to wait any longer. I'm in the last build stages of my TDR. If nothing bites me in the butt at the last minute, should start flight testing today, Wed!

Gotta go - have some carbon tubes to glue
