Got 3 good break in flights on my gasser converted Rptor 90SE today. Motor still needs some fine tuning I'm sure but runs pretty smooth. Can't wait to finish the break in process to start some heavier sport flying with it. Many, many thanks to rctrooper for his help and advice on this project. Thanks JZ! Any gasser folks in northern VA area that might be willing to help with fine tuning my engine please shoot me a PM. Thanks to all the others that have posts on this forum for I used advice from many posts in this project as well. And now for pics of build and finished product. (note, canopy still needs mounting but wanted it on for pic :-) )

Very Nice. Now you can fly with cheaper fuel. Unleaded vs Nitro. $3.99 a gallon vs $30.00 a gallon.

What engine was used? Capacity?

How would the performance be compared to a 91 HZ?

Is the heli a lot heavier than a nitro?

Your heli looks really NICE!!

Concentrate on your weaknesses and your strengths will reward you!

RaptorFreak, You got that right on the fuel. Only filled the 540ml tank up about 3/4, flew about 20 min each flt and landed with 1/4 left. Sweet! 8 min of flying on my R90 3D per tank......big difference! I know it will never be as snappy as the 3D but it will make a really nice sport flyer for sure, fast and flys on rails.

G Steyn, I'm running a G26 Zenoah heli motor. While it may have about the same HP as it's nitro counterpart and more torque from what I have read, it comes with a pretty good weight penalty. I haven't weighed it yet but think it will come in arround the 14 pound range. Will be some time before I get it broken in to where I can better push the engine but can't wait to find out.

Thanks to both for the kind comments. Cheers!

Looks good !
I'd bet that the Raptor 90 frame works well as a gasser.
As we all know, The Raptor models have proven there self's
time & time again.

My next model will be a gasser. I'm in the researching stage at the
moment. I want to learn more about modding the Raptor frame to
except a Zenoah engine.

Congrats dcbusdriver! Enjoy playing with your new gasser.

Here is a what my 14T pinion looks like:

And yes, the R90 converts nicely to a R90G:

This conversion was more involved than others, but I didn't want to change the original frame width to accomodate the Zenoah head.

More pics in my gallery if you're interested.

Video
Here's a low qualtiy video of it flying. My kids seem to have lost the video camera so my 13yr old daughter is using a digital camera in video mode and battling biting bugs while filming. :-)
