these are just reports of pros and cons of quality and engineering.

NOT BASED ON ACTUAL FLIGHT REPORT!!!

Two helis uses same elec. equipment, but the actual size of the heli is very different. L400 is substantially bigger in retrospect than the protos. Protos is about in the middle of Trx450 and Logo 400. Its about 1.5inch shorter. Im assuming the pwr to weight ratio on protos will win hands down although I have actually flown the protos yet. Well here goes,,,

Build quality: Protos. Althought L400 is also excellant, the protos was slightly better in quality and parts fit. Parts fit like magic w/o any frustration. Only thing I had an issue was the tail ball link was too stiff. I later found out that this was done on purpose to let the pilot adjust them w/ given ball link enlarger. I guess its better to make them tight then loose in the beginning.

Design/Engineering: This is very very similar. Logo 400 is based on L10 so the design might be old compared to protos. Both have pros and cons, but I like the single belt design of the protos. No more messing w/ backlash between motor/gear and boom/gear which is on the L400..

Durability: L400 seems more durable just from the visual aspect. Protos seem to be brittle in a crash where as L400 might give a bit.

Part quality: Protos by slight margin. I have the plastic frame on the protos, which is an understatement. Frame is made of plastic and carbon fusion. Very stiff, but brittle. I know this since I used to race RC cars and many were of this type.

is that a new heli? Oh no honey, its the same one w/different stickers.....

ran out of room...

Cost factor: Only for the initial cost. Not considering the replacement costs. L400. Due to its robust design of FBL head and better looking canapy, I think L400 is better value. I did the math and its about $60 more for complete L400 set up compared to Protos. Keep in mind that Protos comes w/ motor, esc, blades combo, but on Logo you have buy these separate. FBL head is much better on the Logo than the Protos.

Part availability: Protos hands down. its everywhere just like Align. Also much cheaper then Logos.

These are just based on my observations and if others are willing to let in their opinions then be my guest.

Some decent notes there for sure. I have owned both 3 Protos actually, two FBL. Now there are pros and cons but in the end even with shorter flight times, abit heavier the 400 Logo still does IMO of course fly better, this perhaps is abit to the weight. The Protos actually is hard to settle in on maneuvers as it is just a tad light really. Also there is significantly more flex overall on the structure of the Protos I found. Both great helis in their size so a person should go with what they like they both fly decent.

...Once upon a time there were Nitros, flybars and frequency pins...

I've never had a logo 400, but I had a flybarred protos.
I found the fit of parts to be not so great. I spent much time getting the tail smooth.
Didn't like the way it flew either, good collective response, but the cyclic lacked and felt "vague" to me.
I don't miss it.

All the logo 400 needs is a revamped design instead of a recycled design from the logo 10. I'm not a big fan of the front tray design. I would like to see a frame designed after it's big brothers the logo 500 and 600. Especially a driven tail and the carbon tail case standard. That being said, the head design is amazing and the heli flies great because of it. I just think there is some room for improvement in the frame design.

The tail being stiff was the only concern during the build. I found out that this was done on purpose. They give a ball link reamer to enlarge the ball link by the owner. I guess its better to be tight and make it loose rather then other way around. Why cant they have just made this fix from the get go? I dont know. But other parts of the build was better fitting than the logo in my opinion.

How it flies? I dont know,, havent flown Protos Yet, but thanks to Misfits, my L400 flies GREAT!!!

I've flown both in fbl config. I prefer the way the Protos flies - especially when it comes to autos. If you want to get creative with autos cross the L400 off your list. The lack of a driven tail significantly limits what you can do as far as that goes. Obviously the power to weight ratio is going to fall in favor of the Protos also. My vbar 400 was pulling up to 2200 watts and my protos smokes it at 1800. It is, to Shawn's point, almost too light. But with vbar that is not an issue in my experience.

If Mikado made a scaled down version of the 500/600 frame for the 400, I would certainly give it a try as that could be a winner. But the L400 was in my opinion is just not all that special.
