I want to be able to check "Asian" on my next job application.

What?

I can't? Who are you to tell me I can't?

I mean I am "Caucasian," so I don't see why I can't just redefine things here and call me an "Asian."

Still no!? Why not?!

Man, my rights have been infringed.

I'm not sure why people don't see this marriage thing as having the same level of ridiculousness as my examples.

Stop assuming that not allowing the redefinition of terms is rights infringement. Not even close.

But calling it a marriage, which has been defined as a spiritual union between a man and a woman before God, means that you are trying to butt into someone's religious beliefs.
What is it called when two heterosexual atheists get married?

Do you wish to disallow marriage between an atheist man and an atheist woman simply because they do not believe in god?

You can't ground your definition of marriage and then allow it to apply to those who aren't religous.

That would be blasphemy.
It is not infringing on anyone's rights
Neither is allowing a homosexual couple in a "civil union' to call it a marriage.

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

You're trying to put words in Aaron's mouth.

He never mentioned atheists.

Is the word "marriage" important to you?

The way I look at it is this. A plug and a light socket, they naturally work together to do something to produce. A plug and a plug? completely useless together. They other day I say a gay guy trying to plug in a computer. He was trying to plug it into the hair dryer. He kept saying ,"but you were made for eachtother" It was weird.

that response is pretty lame and proves my point.

thank you.

The way I see it, for a religious person to "accept only that which they deem acceptable" automatically labels you as a hypocrit.

To me a marriage happens in a real Church and in the eyes of God.
Anything else is a civil union for tax reasons or whatever. That said I really don't care what you do on your own time. You can "Marry" your gerble if you want to! Just leave me out of it.

Did you read what you wrote?

"accept only that which they deem acceptable"

Do you accept a burned steak in a restaurant? No! Why? Because you "deem it unacceptable!"

Of course people and religions "accept only that which they deem acceptable" but that in NO way makes them hypocrites. Actually, that is what keeps them from being hypocrites.

dilbert, excuse me, I should have written this:
The way I see it, for a religious person to "accept for everyone only that which they deem acceptable" automatically labels you as a hypocrit

The problem with you religiously brainwashed people is that you can't accept anything other than what's told to you. You are incapable of thinking for yourselves. You've admitted as much in this thread.

I truly feel bad for you. Your way of life is seriously threatened and you are lashing out in an useless attempt to save it.

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!

And you secular types that refuse to accept that their belief is no less valid than your non-belief are any better?

Belief is not brainwashing. Are there nutjobs on both ends? Of course there are. The refusal to accept others' core beliefs cuts both ways.

For me, marriage is not a religious question, it's a social and cultural institution that certain groups want to redefine for the sole purpose of forcing acceptance of their beliefs. I think that's wrong.

Look, that makes even less sense.

Religious people don't "accept for everyone. " They have their own opinions and desires for laws. Is that wrong? There are tons of groups that lobby for legislation all the time...some religious.

But that does not make them hypocrites.
