Great weather source
Hey guys, maybe this won't be new to anyone here, but I thought I'd pass it along just in case. Although it's for Lee's Summit Airport, I figure it's going to be fairly accurate for most of the area on the south side of the metro.

http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/lau...a=KLXT&state=MO

What I like about it is how it presents information in a very easy to read "at-a-glance" format, especially the wind speed data. In addition, if you look just above and slightly to the right of the graph section, there's a heading called "Weather Maps & Forecasts" which includes a link to a Missouri wind speed map that displays wind speeds in a color coded format like a temperature map.

(or you can link here-> http://www.usairnet.com/weather/map...uri/wind-speed/)

Here's a collection of national maps, including temps, wind speeds, humidity, and more. http://www.usairnet.com/weather/

I've made this my new default Go-To site for quick weather info and, in my opinion, seems to be more "no-nonsense" compared to a lot of the usual weather sites and/or local TV station sites.

Wow, what a beautiful afternoon!
Today I found a big open area just a few minutes from my place that's WAY bigger than the ball parks where I've been flying recently. Although it's not perfectly flat it's still the best place I've found so far and has great visibility. The grass is a little long-ish, but I just took off and landed on my radio case to keep my tail out of it. (Yeah, a little tricky, but a fun challenge!) Guess I need to find a suitable portable landing pad for those situations.

Practiced some more inverted hovering, but to be honest, I was having too much fun just zooming back and forth in the awesome flight conditions. Practiced some more loops and even tried a few stationary back flips... hmm, single flips I can do, but multiple flips is more difficult.

Oh, and I really like having 4 batteries compared to 2. I can fly those Turnigy 3000 packs for a full 7 minutes and still come in under 2400 mAh used. Speaking of batteries, you guys see those new Voltz 5100 65C packs??! $195.00!!! Holy crap!

Anyway, a little more breeze expected tomorrow, but still great for flying! Woohoo!

EDIT: Oh, I see there's some thunderstorms possible tomorrow afternoon. Hmm... well, guess I'll have to wait and see then...

You might have seen this...
A recall has been issued for the Blade mCP-X due to rotor blades/grips coming loose from the rotor head during flight. Some injuries have been reported.

It says you can contact Horizon Hobby for replacement blade grips and DIY instructions.

Friends, bar-b-q, hot chicks and RC and full size helicopters. I'm all in and ready. I'm so excited I can't even sleep. I'm posting this at 4:00 am. I was hoping Pete would call. I know he's up to.
That guy never sleeps always on the job. Ever thinking of ways to improve this Heli club. He's a real leader and go getter.

Hey Craig!
I didn't go to the field today. It was hot and I had more items to check off and take care of for the fun fly. Bill is coming over again to double check what we did the other night. As you know, he is going to also be at the fun fly and volunteer his time. That's priceless!

Good day, with an exception...
Well, I had some fun flying my heli today and enjoying the awesome weather (no wind!) and since the earth didn't go flying up and hit my heli, it was a good day in that respect.

However, my 70-300mm zoom lens decided to die on me... which is the one I use to get all the helicopter photos that everyone likes so much. Obviously, it was going to be my critical lens for the fun fly, and without it, I won't have the ability to get worthwhile close-up shots. So, a new lens is going to set me back about $170, which would be the exception in the otherwise good day.

I guess the bright side is that it gave me enough time to order a new one, but now I'm thinking of how many spare heli parts I could buy with $170! Or that flybarless setup I wanted...

This is the week that it all comes together. The Fun Fly is this Saturday and Sunday. I'm very proud to be in a group that is enthused and ready to help our club when we need it most. I know this will be a great event. Without all of our great members we would be nothing. It's members, friends and participation that make this club great.

I want to especially thank all our members who came to the meeting on Saturday to help with the final planing and volunteered to help the Eagles make this the best Helicopter event Kansas City has ever had.

Were about to show the Helicopter world some real Kansas City hospitality. We are bound for fun and ready to share it with the helicopter community and anyone else interested.

Event Flyer
In case anyone missed it in the Event's section, here's a flyer I put together today that I printed and posted on the bulletin board at my office. Not sure it'll drum up much interest, but I figured I got nothing to lose. (I also included a map and the driving directions on a separate sheet.)

Run Ryder reduces the image quality, but rest assured that the original and print version looks very nice.

Thanks, moonbird! :)
Glad you like it! Yeah, it might be a bit over-the-top, but what the hell, right? I'm more than happy to be able to help and I'm proud to be a part of this club and the Fun Fly!

Just so there's no confusion, that's just a 8.5x11" flyer and not a sign design for marking the way to the Fun Fly along the roads. Those will be much simpler since I don't have all the time in the world to get them done. Tomorrow I'm meeting with Dodge to go along the routes leading to the field to determine the best locations and how many signs I'll need to make.

Afterwards, I'll head out to a few places around town and scout for materials.

Oh, yeah... new zoom lens ordered and shipped. Should be here Wednesday.
