Please tell us if CofG is difficult or easy with this setup (once you get batteries).

I also have a Joker 3DD with one stage gear (standard is a two stage gear) and tube drive - and simply love it, its the best helicopter I have tried by far. Currently I am building a Joker 3 (not DD). I am considering this upgrade for it.

How big is the Joker3 compared to the T-Rex 700e? Size of rotor blades?

I have both. They are same size and use same size of rotorblades.

That 3DD is looking real sweet Carlo! Are you planning on installing some sort of tail fin for it? Maybe the stock fin in front of the tail motor for the first few flights (although it wouldn't look right). Better yet would be a custom fin that allows for the motor to fit through the middle or partially embedded at the back end of the fin. Keep us posted!

I finally got back to flying this past weekend with a vengeance . The 3DD continues to fly very well. I went ahead and replaced the 4S 2650 packs with the 2250 ProPower 45C packs to save some weight (last pic). So far I haven't been able to tell a difference in tail performance, although I've only put a couple of flights with the new packs. This Saturday I'd like to put some back to back flights between the two tail setups for better comparison.

Chachin..

Edit: Poor pic quality due to using phone's camera.

Hello Carlos

Yeah Ill be making a custom fin. Basically it will mount on the motor hub in between the motor screws and the hub. I want it to be as light weight as possible...should look cool too

I may get some 4s 2200 45+ C packs as well to loose as much weight as I can.

From one of the first posts in this thread:
Does the kit not come with an FG canopy?
Looks like you had to cut some of the canopy away to clear the main gear?
Yes, newer kits come with a FG canopy. And also, with newer kits it is not needed to cut in the canopy to make room for the main gear.

Here are some pictures of my single stage gear, tube driven tail Joker 3DD. The other birds are Trex 700E, Joker 2 and Acrobat SE.

Hello All

I just got one set of my packs in

The flying weight is 10lb 9oz(4.8kg) with the following equipment.

Minicopter Joker 3DD Single Stage
Minicopter Direct Drive Tail Option
Custom Light Weight Tail Section
Radix 690mm Main Blades
Radix 105mm Tail Blades
3x Align 610 Servos
1x Align 620 Servo
Castle Ice 160HV Lite
Castle Ice 100
Xera 4030-2.5Y
Kontronik Kora 15-14
2x Volt 3700mah 6s 35C packs
Thunder Power Pro Power 2250mah 30C 6s pack
Hyperion 2s 2100mah LiFePO4
Mini V Bar 5.0 Pro
Futaba R608FS 8Ch Rx

I logged the data from my test flight and found that I can get power spike of 390 watts(18A Spike) on the tail. Because of how I flew I can't really post an average. Note for this test hop I flew with a 5s 45C 4500mah pack

My main rotor head RPM is about 1850(I may bump up my pinion to 12 teeth). I did a few full pitch pops and according to my Castle Log I managed a 2900 watt(70A) spike.

So overall I am way overkill on ESC. The Castle stuff is working very well with the new software and I like this logging thing too

I look forward to really ringing this thing out and from what I see now it should be lots of fun.

Here is some data I took while doing some pretty hard flying. Yes I know the tail RPM has a pretty big range but Id rather the motor bog than the ESC gov and tail gyro conflict.

My tail holds up pretty darn well in 3D flight on 6s packs. Looks like you need to be running up at 11000 RPM to really have the grunt to fly hard.

Ok 2 new editions.

VBar Mini 5.0 Pro.

Thunder Power 2250mah 30c pack on the tail.

The final flying weight is 10lb 15oz...

That is about 2 pounds lighter than the one I flew 3 years ago!
