Yes Curtis Youngblood was the real pilot behind the "drunkin Pilot" demo. He held his transmitter horizontal to try to keep anyone from seeing it...Nice pic of the "drunk" too...

Actually, just about everyone that I talked to was surprised that their was not one single turbine show up. Nobody that I chatted with knew of any restrictions on the turbines actually being at the meet. Just nobody showed up with a turbine is all.....I was hopeing to see one in person but maybe next year....

As for the flight line.....it was DEFINATLY a long hot walk. Too bad they can't make the flight line in the shape of a horse shoe and save the pilots some walking time. It isn't like they don't have the grass area to do it....might help solve some of the other problems they were having with the speakers and the pagers too....just a thought.....

Best Ever!!!!

Thanks Ron for the great dedication it takes to pull something like this off!! I have to say it was a great success!!!

Wingtip here are a few suggestions about some of the things you mentioned.

Cart transporters --- I agree they were not as present as they were last year. Maybe that was handled a little loosely this year.

Noon Demos --- They really have to shut down the entire flight line?? Heard several commenting about this since the demos were very long this year. Maybe just the center 3 stations would be a good solution.

Competions --- Like the auto and time to climb contests. Those could have been held where they did the scale events!! This would have freed up a large amount of flying stations saturday afternoon when they were in demand.

Frequencys --- I never once had to wait for a frequency pager or slot! But it was just a little thinking on how to do that. My transmitter is a synth and before the event I purchased 10 receiver crystals from channel 30 thru 40. Best $140 upgrade I ever did!!!

Yes there was a turbine at the Vario stand. My reference to the turbines was in the context of someone bringing one to actually fly.

WOW, IRCHA was better than I could have imagined!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For those of you who were not able to attend, please do yourself a favor and make sure that you make it next year. Our sport is growing and it is obvious to me that as the sport grows so will its' "flagship" event. I can only wonder how many pilots there will be next year.

I would like to say thanks to a few of the many people that contribute to the success of the IRCHA Jamboree:

Ron and Carol Kummer
Sue Giles
Don and Naomi Campbell
Dan Monroe
Craig Bradley
Steve Kaluf
Greg Poppel

I'd also like to thank all of the Vendors and Sponsors that helped to make the Jamboree a pleasurable experience for everyone.

As for making next year better the jamboree is your event and its' success depends on your participation. Most of the people working the event are unpaid volunteers that give of themselves to provide a better event for you. While I'm sure that Ron welcomes all of the feedback from the event (both positive and negative) I know that he also welcomes a little help. Please keep that in mind for next year and if at all possible get involved and help make it better.

As for the event itself I have never been to any type of Heli event where everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves and the camaraderie of other pilots. If it were possible I would love the see more than one Jamboree next year!!!!!!!!!!!

I truly hope that those of you who were there had a good time and that those who were not can be there next year.

Until then, take care and thank you for all the kind words during the event, they were greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Big D.

Anybody notice that the pictures link on the IRCHA webpage actually points to this thread? I found that very interesting.. Couldn't spare the bandwidth? Make Mark pay for it! I can't imagine what kind of pipe costs are involved with this .com but still.. Pretty chincy IRCHA. Guess they couldn't spare a cameraman either..
I'm still going next year thought

I made it back from IRCHA with a little sight seeing thrown in on the return trip. Thanks again to Ron Kummer (IRCHA President) for a great fun fly.

I can spare the bandwidth and welcome the links from IRCHA’s site. Remember that IRCHA is an all volunteer operation and can use all the help they can get.

I uploaded a short video of Jason flying the Ion (15 sec). It's just some low flips. I suppose it's worthwhile to download while waiting for ctseaplane's video.

Wade,

I told Mark during the Jamboree that I would try to drive traffic into Run Ryder for him while providing some dynamic content at the top of the IRCHA site.

I don't understand how you think that is chincy.

I was there with my camera taking hundreds of photographs of pilots for the site. I sacrificed my entire week for the betterment of IRCHA. I could have opted to just sit on the flight line and fly. I could have spent the few hundred hours it took to develop the registration / impound software with my wife and kids, but then where would that leave us? A lot of angry people waiting on pins and a five year old IRCHA website.

Dan,
I understand where your coming from, and I know exactly what kind of time is involved with maintaining a website and servers. I've been there. If the IRCHA and Mark Ryder have a reciprical linking agreement great, traffic is always a good thing (except when your slashdotted). My point that I was attempting to make, and perhaps my words were a bit hasty, was, it seemed on the surface that the IRCHA was not making any real attempts to construct a viable and content rich IRCHA coverage section on the official IRCHA website. It seems like the IRCHA took the easy route and linked off site to someone else who had made the effort and provided a section on his website for that coverage. Mark did a great job and made significant sacrafices to put his content up, and if someone who is working on his fourm on his own time with his own funding can do a better job than the IRCHA perhaps the IRCHA needs to reevaluate it's website policys.
Now, if the IRCHA and RR has the agreement perhaps it should be commented upon when the link was established. I know I was surprised when a new window open and opened this thread, I was expecting a nicely organised and formatted IRCHA webpage with content I had not seen. Rather than an offsite link.
As far as your personal sacrafice to the organisation and the loss of family time. If this was a real concern of yours perhaps you should have taken a second thought when you volunteered for the job. I miss alot of home time myself when I have to put in extra work (unpaid) at my job, however it comes with the territory. I'm sorry you did not get to fly at the event however I would expect you knew beforehand that you wouldn't be able to fully enjoy the event as you hold a position in the IRCHA.
This was not an attack on the IRCHA or it's volunteers, it was a comment on the appearance of the IRCHA's event coverage.
BTW Dan, the site looks nice. Nice job.

I didn't think he was complaining about his time or not getting to fly, just explaining why it was done this way. I'm sure he knew how much time it would take and did it willingly. Give the guy a break, he did it for you, too, as well as everyone else who went. And a great job, too!

Ok Here's my very first post..... I agree with wingtip about the frequency issue and I think another solution to this is to have a assigned frequencies for competetions posted atleast six months prior to the Jamboree. In this case pilots will be able to make the necessary adjustments/changes prior to the event and other pilots will be warned that if their frequency will be use for competetion they have to give way or atleast willing to wait till the competetion is done before their frequency or frequencies will be available for regular flying.. It might work and it might not also.... just a suggestion...... PINOY
