I am about to buy a Joker 3DD. But how do you (who already has a 3DD) fit 2 6s LiPo packs with 4000-5500 mAh and a 4s LiPo pack with 2200-3000 mAh? Do you have all three batteries in the battery tray or do you mount the 4s pack under the helicopter?

The bettery tray in the Joker 3DD comes in two sizes: 60mm x 55mm or 60mm x 70mm.

The Joker 3DD also comes with single stage gear or two stage gear. With single stage gear the motor is placed in the middle of the battery tray. Single stage gear is on special order only though.

I have a single stage.

You put 2x 3800 mah 6s packs(one on top of the other) in the front battery bay. Its the perfect fit for these packs.

Then you use a 4s 3000mah or 5s 2700mah pack on the tray in the back of the frame.

The heli should balance perfect.

I worked with the dual stage Joker 3 and room is more tight on that airframe. I know that the most that you can fit in the center frame is 2x 3800 6s packs length wise like you would in a Logo 600. From there I guess the pack would mount under the frame.

Maybe Gerd can chime in an give some tips.

@Eco8gator

What brand of 6s 3800 packs are you using? TP packs are 54x47x145mm and two of these won't fit 60x70mm.

How do you like your single stage joker? I am very tempted to buy that version of the 3DD even though it makes fitting the batteries harder because of the motor in the middle of the battery tray. Do you have some pictures?

I have a good conversation with Gerd (even talked to him this weekend). I know he gets a lot of mails so that's why I use RR as well.

For mine I used the TP3850 packs and they fit like a glove. The 3800s are very close in size.

Dont worry about the motor getting in the way of the motor. There is a plate that blocks the motor from the batteries...the batteries have their own space in the airframe.

The single stage joker is a good flying machine(only had experience with the torque tube version)...the gear train is quiet the airframe is pretty simple. There is much more mounting room and flat spaces to use in this airframe than the other version. BUT you must know that the other version with the dual stage setup is the more main stream version...well thats the case in the US.

The only part that requires a tad more effort is installing the motor becasue the main gear blocks 2 screws that hold the motor in place. What you do is mesh the motor using the 2 non blocked screws first, remove the main gear and shaft and install the other 2 screws. Though taking the main shaft out of the single stage joker is easier than the dual stage so I guess the effort is offset

What do you plan on doing with the Joker...AP, hard 3D, sport flying?
