Aloha!

Today is the calm before the storm, so I took the opportunity to take my winter project out for it's first setup flights.

Lots of goodies on this one, with a few custom parts I made as I came up with ideas during the build.

I shouldn't have to mention what it is, but I feel it's the best it can be with the vstabi, align FBL head and a big bore 29RC all put together in a nice little package.

Today I only ran one tank, set the throttle curves and heat cycled the engine a couple of times. A nasty storm is supposed to roll in tonight so after it passes, I'll be out running more gas through and continuing the break in process. Possibly a youtube video later.

Check my gallery for many more pics.

Fixit, the last pic is for you. Never a chance of sucking up any snow, but there's plenty of grass clippings around!

Just another crappy day in Paradise....Aloha!

CNC, nice looking bird.
Question, is the shaft goes through the third bearing block or it sits on it?
On mine I extended the shaft by 10mm and goes through the bearing.
nice work. need some video.

Question, is the shaft goes through the third bearing block or it sits on it?
On mine I extended the shaft by 10mm and goes through the bearing.
The mainshaft has an 8mm ID and once you run a drill bit through to clean up the burrs, a Trex600 feathering shaft fits perfectly inside. I cut the shaft in half and drilled a hole for the Jesus bolt. I glued the feathering shaft into the mainshaft with the R48 retainer that came with the Align kit.

So to answer your question, the mainshaft sits on top of the 3rd bearing, but the 8mm feathering shaft goes through. I decided not to install the bolt in the end because that would make disassembly difficult.

Credit goes to VanHelli for the 3rd bearing block. Thanks mate!

Thanks Zorba but I have to give credit for the idea to VanHelli.

I only improved it by using the Align feathering shaft in place of the stub shaft that came with the bearing block assy.

Did you make a longer mainshaft for your design?

Nice build and yes I do like that cover on the fan intake, it will save me a fortune on drinking straws
The third bearing is a good idea and I used one on my first 700 conversion.

I only like to fly gassed up

Looks Great!
Looking Great CNC JUNKIE!

Was wondering if you recieved it or not...GLAD you Have and the fitting looks good....so a 600 feathering shaft eh! WICKED..coz im running outa 8mm drill bits chopping off the tops..he he he...Im not understanding having the retainer screw in it though..as the bearing block has a milled in retainer ring/Flange "whatever you wanna call it" and you put that facing the bottom of the Heli then you put the pin in bolted to the main gear the bearing cannot fall out once you bolt it in place...(just read the part where ya said wont install the bolt as its difficult)....hmmm I found that too not much space to work in) So I lined up the 3rd bearing block onthe shaft without the main gear..tightened everything up..then installed eveything...found i had to take the head off at one stage and use a dowelrod to tap the pin into place to line up the gearpin...DONE!

Love the Flybarless Gasser Matey! ..and no vibration issues with the V-stabi...Thats excellent!

Cheers

What can I say. That's just a little overkill on my part. My thinking was to lock the mainshaft to the bearing so it wouldn't spin inside the inner bearing race. But then when I thought about it, I chucked the idea since my old Trex600 had the same setup from the factory and I never had a problem with it.

Thanks Haydn, I had the vstabi sensor snugged down too tight with the Velcro strap for the first flight and had a nasty drift, nose left. Once I loosened the strap, the drift went away. Zeal tape is the ticket for gassers. The strap should be there just for safety.

Hey Gill, Howzit?

The jewel is mounted just like on the Predator Gasser. I installed the gforce clutch bearing block and made my own Jewel mount with 2 MA aluminum brackets and a doubled up piece of CF.

As with the Predator, the clutch shoe one way bearing for the start shaft has to be pressed out and flipped over so it drives the start shaft and the Jewel.

To make a longer shaft with the same material that this shaft is made I was looking at $200 to $300 bill.
So, we took another shaft cut 10mm off made a spline to press the two shafts together then drilled a hole for the main gear bolt.
And voila..

Cheers

Thanks Wally,

The vbar has always done its job with previous heli's and the Align head just tops it all off.
What size engine cc do you have it on?
Thanks Chapter, it's a G290RC
Keep us post with some flight videos.
I'm hoping to get some vids shot.

Talk about the big tease! I had it out yesterday for a tank of easy break-in FF between rain showers and today we are socked in. The whole island is rained out. And it's not looking good for the rest of the week either.

Today the signature fits.

I must be missing something. It looks like not much cooling in the system...or is the cooling fan not attached the way I see it in the picture? What have your temps been?
