I just wanted to say “THANKS” to everyone on these forums for the extremely valuable information I have read. I am new to the RC heli world (flew planes many years ago) and had just completed my T-Rex 600 Nitro 50. I have the DX7 transmitter and installed the DS821 servos that came with the radio. I was ready to take it out for the initial test flight but luckily it has been quite windy around here the past few days so ended up reading the forums instead. I was surprised to find out that the DS821 servos are basically junk and should not be used on this size of nitro. DS8717 replacements have been purchased for it. During the process of removing the DS821’s I found that one of the servo shafts was already broken and the servo arm was barely being held on by the screw. This would have probably been a very costly and disappointing first flight.
From what I have read, the DX7 is an outstanding radio so I am surprised that Spektrum would even include low quality servos like these with their heli systems no matter what size of heli is flown. It would also be nice for them to mention on the box that these aren’t recommended for anything over .30 nitro so I could have saved some money and purchased the radio without servos. Thanks again for all the valuable information and hopefully in time I can also put in my .02 cents worth.

On the plus side, I get to tear the heli apart again and rebuild even better this time.

Larry

They have their place.
A 50 size nitro heli isn't it.

I wish they would offer a heli version with better servos.

You can't hardly give those servos away. I have no idea why they are even selling them anymore.
