I don't own a "Gasser" but the Benzin has always been my favourite. It has a real appeal and it's structure reminds me of that of the Robbe machines, high quality. Watching it on video with it's big slow rotor is a real fascination.
There's not a whole lot of info on the Benzin here on RR.
Anyone have one and want to comment?

Does it run smoothly with it's belt driven tranny?

Spark noise interfere with radio?

What fuel-Gasoline, Avgas, etc?

Etc etc?

The lot I got is not a lot, but I thank God a lot for the lot I got!

The Benzin is a great machine for sport flying. If your into 3D then i would look elsewhere. It's a very smooth and quiet flying heli. I have two of them. One is pod and boom, the other is in a jet ranger body. The only thing is it is expensive to repair when you crash. I crashed one a few years back, i stopped counting when i got to $800. Good luck. If you like flying scale, Vario is the way to go.

If you compare prices for replacement parts, i think you will see that Vario is on par with other manufacturers in most normal replacement parts. Of course, if you hit a tree, it will cost alot to fix.

From what research I've done on the Benzin, some say to use the Futaba S9206 servos. I know this is a good servo! Does one then need to have a regulated system or can the benzin be flown with a high mah 4.8 volt nimh/nicad receiver battery?

The lot I got is not a lot, but I thank God a lot for the lot I got!

I think the choice would br yours. I've been flying mine on 9202's with 5 cell nimh packs regulated at 4.8 for some time and I have buddies running 9206's running at 4.8 with no issues.

To answer your other questions the heli is very smooth and quiet. For the spark plug I run an NGK CR7-HIX and a NGK suppressed cap. No interferrence yet over the years.

For gas the common route is 87 octane. I prefer to run white gas in mine mixed with 2.5 oz of Amsoil. The amount of oil you run depends on the type of oil so the mixtures very from pilot to pilot.

Hi Copperclad,
Just wanted to be sure as there's different opinions as to what people call white gas. What are you paying for a gallon of this in the US?
Does anybody use Avgas and does this make any difference with regard to carbon accumulation?

The lot I got is not a lot, but I thank God a lot for the lot I got!

White gas is Coleman camper fuel. The cheapest is 87 octane regular gas, and mix with 2.5 oz of Amsoil. The octane rating is too high in avgas, i believe.

East Coast Scale,
Hi Joe, I've spoken with you on the phone before. I usually order a Vario catalog every couple years just to keep up with you'all.
What are the approximate flight times with a broken-in Benzin pod and boom.
Just ordered two cases of 30% nitro, was $50.00 a gallon to get it here. So it would be interesting to compare the camp fuel costs/flight times.

The lot I got is not a lot, but I thank God a lot for the lot I got!

Gas mix even at 4.00 per gallon. Tank is 18 oz, flight time is usually 20-28min. Cheaper all the way around. I have heard of some guys having to pay 8.00 per gallon for camper fuel. If its so, they are crazy. But, even then, way cheaper.

The Vario Benzin comes with a torque tube drive for the tail. I'm sure another manufacturer has a conversion if you prefer a belt driven tail.
