I got the gf version to start out with and I will upgrade the parts as I go. I am new to nitro helis but I have had a few 450 and 250 electrics and a gaui 550 electric. I have been flying mostly giant scale airplanes the last couple of years and haven't spent much time with helis. I saw one of these fly and couldn't resist. I will post pics and questions as I go. Not sure what equipment I will chose to stuff it with at this point but I will figure that out soon.

You're gonna love the build on this one. The instructions are lacking a bit for beginners but since you've put together a few already you'll find it simple. Waiting on a check to come in the mail so I can finish out mine with electronics and an engine. I'm going for a YS56 in mine.

Aeolus 50 3D CF - 8FGH/R6008HS - GY520/BLS251 - BLS451 x 3 - Multigov - S3155 - YS56

Ya I am pretty excited. I have built half a dozen electrics from kits so I should be ok with most of it but I am sure some little things will stump me enough to post here. I have many years of glow experience in planes(started flying with my dad when I was like 6-7 yrs old) so I should be able to catch on quick...I hope

You will love this Heli. It is simple to build, I had mine flying in about 4.5 hours. It flies super nice.

Got word that it showed up today. It will be a long day at work today that's for sure. I have tomorrow off so I will start assembling it. I don't have any of the electronics or motor yet but I think I have decided on most of what I will get.

Subject to change but as of now:
OS 50 hyper with outrage pipe
Align 610s on cyclic and 620 on tail
Quark gyro
Youngblood atg gov
I will probably get rotortech 610s....where can I find the red/yellow ones that I see a lot of people using?

I will be using my hitec aurora 9 with a 7ch rx and a 1100mah LiFe pack.

Hey mate see Chris from AHF-USA about the AHF blades they are very good blades, also save some money and use your curves instead of a governer. you can always get a gov later

Are the curves on the tx good enough? It seems everyone is using govs? I will look into the ahf blades. I used rotortech on my gaui hurricane and liked them.

Yes the ahf blades are the ones I have seen in pics. They look cool on the aeolus. I might give them a try.

I finally got some time to finish this thing up. The rest of my parts arrive this week and i should maiden by the end of the week.

I got a few different things than originally planned...it will be:

Maverick G5 pro wide chord light blades
Kbdd paddles and tail blades
Savox servos(same as align but cooler packaging) on 610 version on cyclic and 650 on tail
Hitec hs 81 metal gear on throttle
Gv1 governer
Os .50 hyper and outrage pipe
I will borrow my jr 770 gyro from my trex 500 until I get my hands on a total g and go fbl
Hyperion LiFe 2100mah rx battery

I just need to install the electronics on Wednesday since I have the day off, then I can break in the motor.

I will post some pics when I get it done. There are not nearly enough pics of this heli online.

I hope to break in the engine and fly around tonight if the weather is ok.

I am trying to figure out how to post pics from my phone. If I can't figure it out I will get them up later tonight.

Well the maiden sucked. I could not get the stupid remote glow igniter to work(I hear that is a common issue) so I just yanked it out and plugged the driver straight in with the canopy off. Motor started right up and ran great. I brought it up to speed with no problems and lifted off. Hovered for a little while and just had a slight tail wag hopefully it was just from the motor running rich for break in. I hovered for nearly a whole tank and it was almost hands off the whole time which is great. I decided to bring it down and refuel so figured I would hit throttle hold to make sure it is working...as soon as I flipped the switch the motor went to idle as it should but for some reason the tail started spinning and before I could react I was looking at $100 repair laying on the ground.

I guess I have plenty of time to figure out what caused the tail to let loose while I wait for parts to show up

Depending on your radio, you may have some sort of mixing or trim introduced when you hit hold.
Once you are rebuilt, while on the bench switch from normal into hold and watch the tail.
Sometimes with these radios if they are not set up properly, the tail will kick over in HOLD mode and you're done.
Maybe you can check it out now and just watch the tail servo when you switch into and out of hold mode.
I just saw that you are using a Hitec rx....you need to ask somebody who knows a lot about the radio you are using if this is a possibility.

Hope you get back in the air soon.

Thanks for the response. I will be placing an order with you for parts very soon

I will check it out this weekend and find out what caused that to happen. I know the radio inside and out..I was one of the first to have a production model in the U.S. I have been using it on other helis since round this time last year and I have not had this issue. I am sure I just messed something up in the programming but I was too upset to look into it yesterday. I hit the hold switch dozens of times when I was setting up the throttle and gov but I never looked at the tail when I hit it. Won't make that mistake again.

While repairing, grinding the hex rods that go through the engine mount about 0.5mm. So, the frame only touch the engine mount and put positive pressure against the mount. This will prevent engine mount loosening in short order.

Will do...Thanks for the tip!

I assessed the damage to see what I should order and the parts that broke where just one boom support, one tail control rod guide, flybar, and one blade(sucks that I have to buy another pair hah). So in terms of damage to the airframe it is not a big deal and those are parts I should have stocked up on to begin with. I have not pulled out the main shaft but I will order one to be safe. The tail boom has some small dents and might be bent a little so it will be replaced as well. I am looking at around $40-50(stupid blades) in airframe parts so that's not bad at all.

Today I took some time to figure what happened when I hit throttle hold. Turns out I had not combined the flight mode for throttle hold with my normal, idle 1, and idle 2 in the gyro menu...so when I put it in hold I had 0 gyro gain so I basically shut the gyro off when the switch was flipped. I fixed that and triple checked everything else. I will be good to go when the parts arrive.

I have a little over a gallon through the heli now and I am loving it It is extremely stable when I want it to be and rolls are incredible. I haven't flown a heli that rolls so axially...it is almost like a plane. The helicopter is very responsive as well which usually you don't see in a helicopter that tracks as well as this one does. I need to spend a little time working out some interactions and fine tuning the amount of pitch available but aside from that normal stuff I have no problems what so ever.

Flew an entire gallon this afternoon. I am truly loving this thing. I have noticed that I for sure need the electric version before I go broke buying fuel. I am building a trex 700 le fbl right now too so I will really need a bigger electric to keep me from over doing it on beautiful days like today(ok not beautiful..the heat index was 114 degrees but it was calm with the occasional light breeze)

On a side note...the Hyperion 2100mah LiFe is an awesome rx battery. The cg is just fine with it up front and you could fly a whole gallon and only charge it once half way through. I charged twice just to be safe and it only takes a few minutes.
