As for Prince William Sound I will be flying over it next weekend. My son and I are going to the Valdez Bush pilots airshow so I will look at the water and see if there are any colors.

my oil tank has a valve on it. when the oil line from the tank to the burner ruptures the valve is spring loaded and will close. hopefully no oil escapses down my driveway.

i wouldn't put it past BP to let oil leak out on purpose, over-exagerate the amounts, increase prices.

they thought the trip to the moon was done at a movie studio once

who says the hubble is really in space taking beautiful pictures

Dollars to doughnuts says that the reason the shear rams aren't working is that there is a drill pipe joint stuck in the rams.

This would be a pretty exact replay of the one in '79. History loves to repeat itself. And we love helping it.

That would be plausible except for 1 thing. They had Frank's on the floor. They were running casing when the blowout happened. I don't believe shears can cut casing?

Yes shears won't cut casing. However casing shears will. If they were running casing then they would have casing shears installed.

I don't thing they were running casing as they were cementing the well in order to move off the well. Ie plugging the well. That is why haliburton is involved as it is believed that was what failed causing full well bore pressure entering the bop and riser (a kick of epic proportion)

Of course this is all speculation as I am not privey to any information.

yep....technology gets better, we haven't had this kind of problem in YEARS and yet it suddenly happens on the heels of a 180 degree turnaround from Obama on the topic of drilling...........and around Earth day.....?????
C'mon...this stinks to high heaven. May not be the US gov't, but there is something really fishy with all of this. Alas, we'll never find out.

Giant oil-services provider Halliburton may be a primary suspect in the investigation into the oil rig explosion that has devastated the Gulf Coast, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Though the investigation into the explosion that sank the Deepwater Horizon site is still in its early stages, drilling experts agree that blame probably lies with flaws in the "cementing" process -- that is, plugging holes in the pipeline seal by pumping cement into it from the rig. Halliburton was in charge of cementing for Deepwater Horizon.

"The initial likely cause of gas coming to the surface had something to do with the cement," said Robert MacKenzie, managing director of energy and natural resources at FBR Capital Markets and a former cementing engineer in the oil industry.

The problem could have been a faulty cement plug at the bottom of the well, he said. Another possibility would be that cement between the pipe and well walls didn't harden properly and allowed gas to pass through it.

Last year, Halliburton was also implicated for its cementing work prior to a massive blowout off the coast of Australia, where a rig caught on fire and spewed hundreds of thousands of gallons into the sea for ten weeks.

In that incident, workers apparently failed to properly pump cement into the well, according to Elmer Danenberger, former head of regulatory affairs for the U.S. Minerals Management Service, who testified to an Australian commission probing that accident.

Haliburton = Cheney = Bush. Sooner or later it will end up Bush's fault I'm sure. I love how it took what, 10 days for Obama to go look at it??

I like that. No need to investigate, hasn't happened before (apparently) so it probably won't happen again
please point out to me where I said the root cause of this incident doesn't need to be determined?

Alas, we'll never find out.
As the United States continues to deal with the disaster in the Gulf, reports emanating from Russia of a media blackout ordered by the White House have been making the rounds, coupled with the deployment of SWAT teams to other rigs. The fact is that this rig should not have sunk the way that it did, certainly not as fast as it did. The rig was also designed to prevent the spewing of oil from the bottom in the event a catastrophe actually did cause it to sink.

A Fascinating Story For Conspiracy Theorists

The following report from WRAL.com is a fascinating read and terrifying if true:

US Orders Blackout Over North Korean Torpedoing Of Gulf Of Mexico Oil Rig

A grim report circulating in the Kremlin today written by Russia’s Northern Fleet is reporting that the United States has ordered a complete media blackout over North Korea’s torpedoing of the giant Deepwater Horizon oil platform owned by the World’s largest offshore drilling contractor Transocean that was built and financed by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., that has caused great loss of life, untold billions in economic damage to the South Korean economy, and an environmental catastrophe to the United States.

Most important to understand about this latest attack by North Korea against its South Korean enemy is that under the existing “laws of war” it was a permissible action as they remain in a state of war against each other due to South Korea’s refusal to sign the 1953 Armistice ending the Korean War.

To the attack itself, these reports continue, the North Korean “cargo vessel” Dai Hong Dan believed to be staffed by 17th Sniper Corps “suicide” troops left Cuba’s Empresa Terminales Mambisas de La Habana (Port of Havana) on April 18th whereupon it “severely deviated” from its intended course for Venezuela’s Puerto Cabello bringing it to within 209 kilometers (130 miles) of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform which was located 80 kilometers (50 miles) off the coast of the US State of Louisiana where it launched an SSC Sang-o Class Mini Submarine (Yugo class) estimated to have an operational range of 321 kilometers (200 miles).

On the night of April 20th the North Korean Mini Submarine manned by these “suicidal” 17th Sniper Corps soldiers attacked the Deepwater Horizon with what are believed to be 2 incendiary torpedoes causing a massive explosion and resulting in 11 workers on this giant oil rig being killed outright. Barely 48 hours later, on April 22nd , this North Korean Mini Submarine committed its final atrocity by exploding itself directly beneath the Deepwater Horizon causing this $1 Billion oil rig to sink beneath the seas and marking 2010’s celebration of Earth Day with one of the largest environmental catastrophes our World has ever seen.

To the reason for North Korea attacking the Deepwater Horizon, these reports say, was to present US President Obama with an “impossible dilemma” prior to the opening of the United Nations Review Conference of the Parties to the Treat on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) set to begin May 3rd in New York.

This “impossible dilemma” facing Obama is indeed real as the decision he is faced with is either to allow the continuation of this massive oil leak catastrophe to continue for months, or immediately stop it by the only known and proven means possible, the detonation of a thermonuclear device.

Russian Navy atomic experts in these reports state that should Obama choose the “nuclear option” the most viable weapon at his disposal is the United States B83 (Mk-83) strategic thermonuclear bomb having a variable yield (Low Kiloton Range to 1,200 Kilotons) which with its 12 foot length and 18 inch diameter, and weighing just over 2,400 pounds, is readily able to be deployed and detonated by a remote controlled mini-sub.

Should Obama choose the “nuclear option” it appears that he would be supported by the International Court of Justice who on July 8, 1996 issued an advisory opinion on the use of nuclear weapons stating that they could not conclude definitively on these weapons use in “extreme circumstances” or “self defense”.

ding ding.......that's what I'm saying!!! A blowout...maybe. But this was a floating rig, not a hard mounted rig. It makes no sense that it would sink. I'm telling you, this was a sabotage. Don't know by who, but the timing is ridiculous.

ok..I have a question about this type of work. We drill the well, then plug it with cement??? Are we capping them, for later use..just curious.

There's huge issues right now in NY over nat gas drilling..and wonder about the capping.

Thanks guys
