Whats a large (800mm +/-) Electric platform suited well for AP. The options that come to my mind are a bergen, joker, and on the smaller end a trex700E. Is there anything out there Im missing? I liked the Halo camera ship from PS1 but even though the website says they start at $5k up to $30k an E-mail I got from them stated it was all or nothing and $23K. A little out of my price range right now. Also if anyone is interested PS1 also said they will probably discontinue the halo next year in favor of the multicopters. Customer service didnt seem to good there. Instead of being interested in a potential customer they seemed short with me. Maybe they get tons of E-mails from people that have no clue ... IDK.

Any opinions out there?

The Joker 3 / Maxi is used by quite a few. I don't own one but after watching one recently... it's a "got to have".
The Maxi is stretched for 800mm blades I believe.
Very smooth and stable.

Do a search in this forum as I'm sure there are details and reviews from the owners posted here...

I think that may be my #1 choice now. Its $1,300 for the kit. I need to do some research on the cost of the motor and all other electronics so I can get a number in my mind about what Im gonna spend. I want to build the whole ship on paper and then I can start buying it piece at a time. Im shooting for about 2yrs from now having a fully functional AP ship.

Joker is the only way to go. A used Joker II would be fine. I see them in the classifieds occasionally. Not a fan of any of the others.

Other big electrics would be ok as long as they are as sturdy, simple and reliable.

And definately go flybarless, assuming you are not using other stabilization systems, the Vbar adds a ton of stability.

keepin' it real

Fireboy,
Save your money if you arent ready to buy now, who knows where the technology will be in 2 years. To try an piece it in over that long is crazy. There was a smoking deal on a used maxi on for sale here. Not trying to be harsh just save you money and headache. I'm very suprised at your comments regarding PS. They have alway been professional and helpful with me. They are doing some cutting edge stuff, too bad they are discontinuing the HALO, its a nice set up.

I agree with you mike... Really Im just trying to get an idea of a total amount I can reasonably expect to pay for a complete system. Them I need to figure out a savins plan and put $ aside just for this purpose. I have been watching PS1 for a while. There products look great. I just noticed at first the Halo said $2500 for a basic setup and now it said $5000. I just E-mailed them to clarify and it just seemed like they werent interested in me. My theory is that they get tons of Emails asking "how much" from peole that never plan to buy anything. Still should take everyone seriously though. No hard feelings I guess. When I have some $ in hand and go to them Im sure they will be happy to take it.

I streched my Razor 600E to handle 720 mm mains. With 10S 5000mah and a scorpian 400Kv motor it is very stable and vibration free with lots of lifting power ( don't know the max yet). With the Helicommand it is very easy to fly at altitude for pictures. Maybe not the best but certainly lower cost than many others. (15 mins flight time without camera load).
Just a thought.

There are multiple routes/options in the realm of AP and there isn't a simple answer to your question. If your starting from scratch (no radio, airframe, support gear, etc)? Set aside $10k for starters.

Yes - deals are always available on second hand equipment. Just be cautious if you go this route.

Most of the Pro's have climbed the ladder in regards to equipment and have developed their rigs over time. It's a process to learn what works and doesn't for ones flying style and needs. IMO the PS1 ready-to-fly platforms are geared towards Pro's that already know what they need and understand the value of the services offered. AP can be designed around a small or large budget. The two are completely different in terms of performance and ease of operation.

Each platform will have strengths and weakness. This is a key factory IMO you should research.

These guys have an electric heli that looks like a joker on steroids!
http://leptronhelicopters.com/ They claim over 30 minute flight time.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!
