Very cool, we get to see both a FBL and traditional head! I wish the motor was top mounted, to allow a variety of batteries to slid in on more like the Logo?

it looks like they shrank the frame some and the head looks thinner but it looks like it has ds610's in it... ill b interested to see how much weight it shed from a 600

i like the tail servo mount

So a 5s 250 eh?? Hmm! lol

I think it will rock on 6s personally. Oh and there is nothing wrong with the align ESC or motors and a 125amp ESC on a 550 is way overkill!

That design looks very disappointing . I thought it was going to have a frame arrangement like the 700E with the motor on top and the battery on the bottom. I really don’t see any reason to purchase it as it just looks like all the other 550 helicopters on the market.

The 550 is made to run a 600 class power system; 6S is ideal and so a single pack is all anyone should need. The 700E is designed around 12S and so dual packs will be common.

The frame design is perfectly suitable for a single pack. It looks like many other 550 helis on the market because that is a good layout for a 550.

If a 700E layout is important to you in a 550 size, buy a Logo 500.

I run my T600 on 8s and my Raptor E550 flybarless on 8s. Once you go to 8s or 10s you will never consider 6s in a 550 or larger helicopter. With the lower cost of LiPo’s and many good HV ESC’s it makes no sense to build a 6s 550 these days. If you want 6s stick with the T500.

unless its a flying tank/ paper weight, my logo flys great on 6s and plenty of power so if align did it right amd the weight is right, 6s and this heli will rock

I can see why 6S isn't good for 600 and up, but a 550? Kind like 4S on a 450 - yeah, you can do it, but 3S is plenty. The amps on the 550 should be fine for almost everyone. Let's just call it a gray zone.

I would fly 6S on the 550 and have a ball. Each to his own.

if the 550 doesn't weight that much less than the 600 then theres really no gain to it and it might still fly the lipos hot

According to the new features spec, weight reduction was on Align's mind when this thing was conceived. Everything from main gear to bearing blocks are lighter. And it looks like they incorporated the 450Pro design to mount the rudder servo inbetween frame. Can't wait to see how this thing flies.

oh and higher cell count doesn't necessarily = weight increase. Usually you go to lower capacity cells since they don't draw as much amp at higher voltage. So in theory you can run 12s-1300mah pack if you wanted to.

6s voltage could pull a train, its all about the motor. Personally I hate using 2 packs in a heli.

If the weight stays the same going from say 6s to 12s then the flight time will be the same, people tend to go slightly heavier on high voltage setups thats why you see an increase in flight time.

^^^ I feel the same way about the 2 packs...it's just not for me. I bet with a really good lipo like the TP 45c...it would be awesome. In addition, a scorpion motor would add a little umph too!
