I have a gasoline powered Vario Jet Ranger that i built and flown, but i am intimidated about painting it. I could send it out for paint, but i feel i should learn to do it myself. One problem i have is a proper place to do it. I live in an apt. I have all my stuff at my brother-inlaws house, but I don't feel right about asking him to go through the and smell and mess so i can paint my ship. Another option came up. Nelson water based paint. Has anyone tried this paint? I heard it doesn't smell, and is easy to clean up. I have a Sears 2 gal. compressor, and was thinking about getting an inexpensive detail gun. I want to keep it fairly simple. Just want to paint the body white to cover the blemishes, and put on the decals that came with the ship. Thanks

I use Createx water based paint. With my Itawa airbrush See my Gallery for the Predator paint job. Only thing extra I do is use automotive clearcoat after it's all done to seal the paint.

If You wanted and are close to me I can help you and use my basement to do the painting.

Thanks again for the invite, but i can't travel to far because of back problems. I had to pass up Ircha because of my back.
Like the red and yellow. I also have a predator gasser. I pretty much leave my canopies white, and maybe use the trim that comes with it. Makes it a little less painful when i crash. I once bought a nice canopy. I think it cost about $175. Had a case of dumb thumbs, it really hurt to see that canopy all torn up.
If i do the jet ranger, and i like the way it comes out, maybe i might do some of my other canopies. Although i really don't mind a white canopy, some days the white blends in with the sky, making it hard to see. Take care.

Bladebuster: I totally understand about back problems. If you need any help just let me know. My predator canopy was done by me the first time picked up a airbrush. It's not perfect but it's mine and I love it. Too bad we live so far apart!! Also remember with water based paint if you don't like the way it's turning out wash it off and start over.

Good Luck with it!!

Thanks Jeff. One more thing. Is it really necessary to to use automotive clear. Would the paint peel off if i didn't use it? I would like to stay away from auto. paint if possible.

I think Createx makes a clearcoat It's just easier for me to use that plus the shine is what I love. At the moment I'm brain dead but look on flea bay for createx paint and there is a place out of CA. that I order from and they are fast on shipping.

Jeff

TCP Global on fles bay.
