Bring a 10' X 10' tent, a table to sit your heli on, a chair to sit you on, a cooler full of coke, suntan lotion, bug spray, and a place to stay.

Rent a golf cart if you like to get around to the different areas or just to travel up and down the flight line.

Once the tent is setup it stays for the entire time right? Or do we have to break it down at the end of each day. I wouldn't think so. Just confirming with people that have already been there.

depending on the weather, you may need to remove the cover from the structure at night. Its not uncommon for pretty strong thunderstorms in Indiana during the summer.

What To Bring.....
Going along with what everyone else has listed here, just think of this as a week long camping trip in HELI HEAVEN!!!!! You need to see what a 1/2 mile long flight line looks like at about 5pm, with no breeze and all that 30% just hanging in the air.... to believe it... what a site....
If you have room, bring a grill, even though there are food vendors on site with a LOT of good food, you may want to just chill in your own area.....
And you are right that once you set up, you have pretty much staked your claim for the entire event.... as Carey said though, you may want to pull the top off your canopy some evenings, depending on the weather forcast for that night... AND IT IS REALLY WORTH PAYING ATTENTION TO!!!!! (ask how we know this!!!)
We have had a golf cart each time we have gone and I am not sure really how we would deal without it... that flight line gets LONG... but there is now a shuttle service to the other fields which make it a lot easier....
Motels are listed on the event info and are not far from the site...or you can camp at the site if you want to do that....see the event info....My idea of camping is the Hampton Inn!!!!

Hope to see you guys there..... Stan

Bring whatever you'd normally bring to be self sustained at a regular fun fly. There are food vendors on site but you need your own tables, tents, generators (for charging), etc.

Thought I had my list completed, but I really like the grill idea. Chillin' out cooking up our own dinner sounds like the ticket for sure...

Hi guys

I was a 'first timer' last year. I came with a pocket full of US $ and went home with 75% of it. I was surprised at the lack of things to buy!!!!!

Regards
Paul

PS: i have just got some leave approved. Will start planning the big trip from Dubai soon.

A tent, camper , trailer, motorhome.........
Sure a hotel room is great, a pool is too, but camping and eating at IRCHA is the best. Almost as much happens at night as during the day.

Saturday Night Finale Night Fly is awesome.

The Saturday night IRCHA BEAN-FEED is good too.

The Friday Night Poker/Charity Party followed by the after-dark
Friday Night SWARM party, night fly, #$$%pong. Crazy fun

Random evening flying, all week long.

Cookouts with RR & HF friends from coast to coast.

Forget the hotels, 2-3 showers at the RV Shower house is all you
need, you collect enough free t-shirts not to need to worry about
laundry.

LEAVE THE FIREWORKS AT HOME, that really gets the police and fire department excited at 2-3AM. But waking up at 6AM when Curtiss steps out to do a tuning flight is priceless.

Boys Scouts do a kick-ass job of making affordable food all week long, good coffee, breakfast sandwiches, burgers, etc.

Got more room, Wednesday and Thursday night for impromptu party ideas.
Got an idea? Post it, pass it on, talk it up and make it happen.

See you there.

Don't forget, all of the top dogs (FAI Pilots) will be there starting on Saturday for the NATS which runs thru Thursday. If you want to really see some precision hovering and flying, make sure to stop by and watch a little of this. Last year with the first timer Class I contest, all of the pilots who entered (had never flown contest before) were amazed on how difficult it really is to fly precision in front of judges.

I plan on going this year and I was wondering how many people fly at the same time?

How far apart is one station from the other?

Do vendors typically sell items for less than the prices we typically see online?

The flight stations in the past have been ~150'x 150' and they are stacked - no space between.
If you're not comfortable with a stick-banger on either side of you trying to destroy their machine whilst you do your stuff in-front-of yourself - can be a bit intimidating!
Occasionally you will be next to someone who may fly beyond their space and into yours - a good spotter is a must!!!

Recall somewhere in the mid to upper 20s on number of flight stations.

lotta ins, lotta outs

There are multiple sites
The main flightline has about 18-20 flight stations. There is a small electric area and a beginner/tuneup flight area also. See the IRCHA website has a map of the area. There are also some other flight areas on the AMA site you can drive too and do some remote flying.
