Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd share this one with you all. In my quest to fix my bogging issue and switching back to my 14t pinion, I noticed that the hole in my 13 tooth pinion is off center. I was wondering why my middle bearing in the starter shaft/pinion block was pretty trashed. I don't have that many hours on it, but when I stuck the shaft through the pinion and spun it boy does she wobble. My fault for not spotting this when I originally threw it in there.
Here's a couple of photos of what I'm referring to.

That really should not cause you any issues unless it is so far off that the shaft is forcing it to the side during operation. The start shaft does not support the pinion during operation. That is done by the bearings in the clutch/bell housing. So the pinion is totally supported by bearings.

Now as I said, if it is so far off that it is pushing on the shaft as it spins in normal operation, it could cause some issues.

Was wondering what effect it would have. That bearing though that fits over the end of the pinion, that bearing is "sandwiched" in the block assy. Now that pinion is wobbling at that upper part where the bearing fits over it, thereby ruining it. My middle bearing, the inside race is almost at the point where it feels like its going to fall apart from the outter race. I do agree the shaft going through it won't pose a problem. Its that movement or wobble against the middle bearing..
Oh well, its getting removed anyway. If it does pose a problem if left there then I guess others can take a look it.

BTW Sparx,

Got my new Rt 620's but haven't got to try them yet. I'm waiting for that little bearing. Of course the size I didn't have in my box...

Hard to say if it will effect it or not from this end. Kind of one of those things you need to see. I can see no reason you couldn't open that hole up a bit with a drill to keep it from pushing onto the start shaft. Of course, I am sure you could just as easily call Century up for a replacement considering you are not using it right now.

I am sure you will notice a big difference in those blades. That coupled with the gear ratio, you will be surprised. If I remember right you have quite a bit of fuel thru it now. So crank the Head Speed up to 1950 RPM and get it tuned in to that RPM. Also, keep the collective pitch to 10*. You will be surprised how well it will perform there. Now it is not going to rocket off to the stratosphere with 10* of pitch, but it will keep you out of the high pitches and bogging the engine.

Now to get it "responsive" like 12* of pitch, set your curves up so they are like a 12* pitch, but cut it off at 10*.

I was hoping last weekend I would get to try out your suggestions and post back, but as it turned out my blades didn't show till monday.
You know, I did get my rt610's in for my raptor. And flying that around this weekend I did notice that my raptor50 didn't bog/load up much at all any more, and I had Mav's on that as well.
I'm already an RT convert.....

I had the same thing. Just had to replace that bearing the clutch bell housing and the bearing that sets on top of bell housing. I took it apart to install the 14t pinion. Maybe something was misaligned when I assembled it but the bearing on the bell housing was trashed and had a significant wobble damaging the bell housing. I also had to replace the damaged bearing on the top of the pinion.
