Hey everyone. I was just wondering what you guys are running for a thottle servo. I am looking for a very reliable servo for my JR 260 gasser. I have a DS811 on there now. It came with all DS 811 servos and I have a near miss when one failed on the 120 swash setup. I have JR NES 8101 now except for the tail with has a S9254 futaba. Thanks for your time.

For gassers
DS811's are not good as you found out and also the 9254 servo is quite weak for a gasser may overheat and eventually burn out on you.

I'd rather see you use a 9251, 9256 or BLS251 for the tail servo.
For the main servos, you can use 9252's, 8311's, 8717's, 9402's, Hitec 7966's. All these are decent choices.

I am installing a dji system right now and have a lot invested and just do not want to cheap out and have a failure that I could have prevented.

I'm not sure I understand here, you say "IT" came with 811 servos. Did you purchase the HELI with these servos or just the radio that was purchased separately?

811 servos should never be used on anything larger than a .30 sized heli. DEFINITELY not a gasser on CCPM....

A great throttle servo is an 8231, I have MANY hours on mine in my GSR.

Yes I bought the heli ready built and that was they were the servos that were intalled. The company heard about my issue and replaceed the 120 swash setup with NES 8101 JR servos. I still have one DS 811 for my throttle and it has me freaked that it is a piece of .... I thought I would get some feedback. I like helping others and hearing what people are using.

What about a JR DS8711 servo. I heard that they are not the good for gassers.

These are the servos that Airfoil sells with the package deal for the GSR.

I helped a buddy here with a GSR a few years ago. Under my recommendation he replaced the 811's with 8311's on the swash. Look for reliable and accurate NOT fast servos for the swash on your GSR. You want them to hold the position accurately and reliably. There are lots of good choices out there. Personally today I might look into the Futaba brushless servos for reliable top shelf servos. BLS351 or BLS252's or some such. Again torque and accuracy instead of speed for this application.

Same with the tail servo. We replaced the 9254 that Airfoil included with the bundle with a JR 8900. Today I'd go with a BLS254. The 401 seems to work fine on this heli.

I think that Airfoil is including different servos now. AFAIK the DS811 isn't made anymore and since the DS821 is expressly recommended against heli's of this size they are not selling the package deal with those servos anymore. I *think* they are now including the DS8231.

Yes that is the same setup I purchased. I will replace the tail servo aswell. Is the DS 8711 a reliable servo for the thorttle? I have it sitting here now, but I heard the heli vibe is not good for this servo.

This is just my opinion but I personally think that nylon geared servos are better for the throttle. My theory is less of the vibration goes from the carb to the servo electronics because the nylon has some give to it, dampening out some of the high frequency vibs. Just a theory but I'm sticking to it. No need to run a $100+ servo, save that for another application. I'm running a Futaba 3010 which is working great on my Predator but if I were buying new today it'd be likely a Hitec 485 or Futaba 3152. My favorite throttle servo is the Hitec 525 but I don't think they are making it anymore, might be able to find one if you look around.

i know 811's are not suppose to be used for cyclic on helis above 30. but aren't they okay for just throttle? how much torque on the minimum do you really need for throttle application?

now that you mention it we left the 811 on the throttle of the GSR I was helping with - never had a problem with it.

It's the JR DS821 servos that are the problem ones. I think the 811's are a better servo, at least a lot lower failure rate as far as I know.
