Mine has gone through the break-in as it has done over 30 flights.

It runs on 30% fuel, OS8 plug, Zimmermann 90 muffler, 0.1 + 0.2 shims

Few comments:
- do not use YS check valve in this engine, the OS and YS check valve are not same,
- basically same power and torque with non-pumped HZ,
- once the needles are set, the variation of day to day flying is minimum, a very good plug and play engine,

The YS FOUR CYCLE check valve and the OS check valve are, however, interchangeable on this engine.

I bought the carb upgrade and flew it for 4 tanks yesterday. This carb is very consistant until the last drop. I had found that if i opened my mid needle to 3/4 open i had more power and the gov had more control. The stock settings are rich. I only went 4 clicks closed on the main needle and the motor was set. The motor was not hot at all. I am running Cool Power 30% with an OS #7 plug. I am also running the OMI check valve and fuel magnet. No foaming in the tank.

Hi Rymps,

what is your exact current needle setting? Me too I'm going to put the new carb and I have to break the engine again since I have a brand new piston/cylinder.
How many tanks for a reliable breaking?

my motor was already run in. my current needle settings are mid= 3/4 open. high= 2 1/4 open. you will need to play around with the needles to get them like you want them.

As far as break in use the stock settings that are posted in the instructions. the cab came with only a few clicks open so you will need to adjust the needle settings like i did.

I ran both of mine today for the first time. Both motors were already broken in, just did the conversion. I was already running Clines on both, the OS setup started right up, idled smoother, and ran more consistent than the original OMI carb. Cool Power 30%, OS #8, stock head shim (never pulled the head off), SB-20 and I'm at 7/8 of a turn on the mid and 2 turns plus 4 clicks on the high. The power is great, almost there, but I know it's got more in it. Will tweak it more tomorrow. So far I am very impressed with how well it ran.

What about the check valve?
Just got my upgrade kit. I noticed that the check valve is a bit "hard to open" I mean I have to blow quite strongly to let the valve open.
Is it normal? I have other check valves that are a lot more sensibles and they open just with a little pressure. Any comment?

It will loosen up once you get fuel in it.

Well, I ran my second one yesterday and at the same settings as the first one it was much richer. Went in about 12 clicks on the high to get similar performance, so it just goes to prove that no 2 engines are alike. This one does have more flights on it though. And yes, the check valve is nearly impossible to blow through but has performed flawlessly so far.

pipe
What pipe or pipes would be ideal for this motor? Thanks.

EDIT: I guess this is it:
Hatori SB-20FH OS91 HZ Muffler

Is there a better option?

There's a SB-20FH-2 for the 91HZ and HZ-R.

Guys, two questions:

- where can you buy the carb upgrade?

- Also, will the card upgrade work an the odler SZ-H os engines, or will it only work on the HZ series?

I am asking becasue I have an SZ-h with the OMI Cline mod, and I'd be interested sometime in replacing it with the new OS regulator.

Thanks in advance for any replies or help.

It'll work fine.

You will need to pull the isolator ring off the carb for it to fit your SZ. Other than that, it's plug and play.

Tower stocks the parts.

BTW, If you have a Cline modified carb, all you need to buy is the regulator itself. It'll work fine with the OMI modified carb.
Hi Dr. Ben, I didn't see any regulator only item for sale around. Do you know which part number and who has it?

Thank you!

I did some searching. It looks like they don't sell it that way. I edited the post script from my original post so a bunch of folks don't go on a wild goose chase looking for the regulator alone.

A better bet for those with OMI carbs is just to sell them in their entirety and use the sale funds to buy the new OS reg and carb.
