Thought I would try out one of the "best of the best" motors out there. Which Kontronik calls the "real premium product", when you want only the best!

Well I ordered a Pyro 700-52 motor and on the fourth flight it froze up!
Managed a decent auto, so no damage to my bird.

After looking the motor over, you could see 2 of the outside magnets were in chunks. Looks like the lament they use on the magnets let go. Then the motor promptly tried to eat itself!

Now it's a trip back to Germany for the fix. Let's see, that's 3 to 4 weeks before I have the motor back repaired. Hardly what I would call premium service. I have heard that this not the only "new and improved" 700 series pyro that has had the same issue. Seems there are more out there. Anyone else have this happen?

Also, reports of DOA Jive controllers having to be sent back for the long road to recovery. I have a Jive on the way, and hope mine does not have the same issue. Fingers crossed!

I know this sounds like a bit of a rant, and probably is, but I was so looking forward to finally getting and using the "best out there" and am a bit disappointed at the quality control and the level of service when something breaks.

GET AN XERA MOTOR It's over 200 bucks less and you get similar efficiency and power.

BTW I am not a sponsored pilot though I do support high quality US designed stuff and this is one of them.

Nothing is 100% failure proof, i have 4 kontronik jive and motors.

You cannot blame them for the slow postal service, they are quick with there turnaround.

I have a Kontromik Tango 45-08 that failed in what sounds like a very similar manner, complete lock up after one flight, engineers report says magnets had failed.

Took 2 months to get a replacement as it first went back to the supplier in the US then on to Germany, Kontronik had it for 4 weeks before I got the replacement. New motor seems to be fine but it has dented my confidence
