Is the Helicommand gyro function acceptable for AP or do I need to use another gyro? I read in other threads that its performances for 3D are far from satisfactory. AP use is different,
Does anybody have experience?
Thx
Luigi

I don't have any experience. Most people don't bother with it and just use a GY401. That's what I am doing and the 3A unit works great!

Good luck!

The only thing the internal gyro will limit you to is a yaw rate of 400 degrees per second.

It is a gyro but if you taste a good gyro you will never use it anymore,... i have tried it, but leave the idea and use 401 and 601 gyros on my cameraships!

Give it a try first, see how you like it and than decide if need an external one.
I too, as Chuck, am very pleased with it.
Take the time to set it right and it will work just fine for AP and sport flying in general.
I dont know why some people are so disstisifed with it.
I can only imagine they didn't bother setting it properly.

For users that are having success with the internal gyro, what tail servo are you using?

9254....holds like a charm. I'm swinging 640 main blades and switched my logo stock tail blades to 95mm and it helped quite a bit. Head speed is a big factor in how well the tail will hold.

Any of you guys using the ALT HOLD from PistaJ in combination with the Helicommand? This combination sounds like a great alternative to DJI or PROFI and it costs thousands less. I just ordered one this morning!!

PistaJ is a really nice and informative guy.

Same here.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I have extensive time using HC3A.., issues are limited but noteworthy.

I prefer sticking with the GY611 on the tail.., tape over lens and use hor mode only on the HC. If you don't properly ground the unit., boom to frame, frame to ESC.., static will bite you hard.

It will eventually wear and require full reset and/or firmware update or worse.., in other words., it's very fragile.

I'd avoid any consideration on larger cam ships of any value.., I'd go ProFi unit with anything bigger than a Logo 10 size heli although mine served me well on one of my Jokers for quite awhile without issue.

Biggest problem deals further into fragility. The wires are so tiny and barely suffice., any stress and you're in trouble. then the connects to the rx will fit too loosely.

The performance is predictable and useful though., tends to erratic corrections in higher winds so keep the gain down and let it soften the attitude rather than force the attitude.

I don't have major gripes but I'd suggest a pro stabilizer if at all affordable to you.. Of the 4 I own., one has gone well into the "twitchY" side.., so it's on the bench. The others still work fine.
