I've always flown Align because of the price and parts availability. Readyheli is my parts carrier and I like being able to have parts in a couple of days when I need something. Readyheli doesn't carry Avant and I'm interested in this new 90 sized electric Aurora. Sweet looking heli and I've heard good things about Avant in general.

My questions are:
Who is a good carrier for Avant helis and parts
How is the price of replacement parts verses Align parts?
Has anyone flown both (.50 or .90 sizes) and how do they compare as far as quality of machining of aluminum parts, layout of servos, battery trays etc?
Thanks,
Roger

I'll just attempt to answer some of these, well the one I want to answer the most actually
How is the price of replacement parts verses Align parts?
APPARENTLY.... the prices are SUPPOSED to be on par with their "Taiwanese competitors". Given the high quality machine of the Aurora, I have to see this to believe it. However, if they really can match (or even just come close) to Align parts, yeah, the 90E market is going to get really interesting.

I'll let the others chime in on your questions since I don't technically own a "full" Aurora (I have sentiments and opinions on all of your questions though )

The frame layout is genious and the tail unit is built like a tank. The head is well thought- out but looks more complicated than an align head. For me I wish I could put the align head/tail on avants frames. As for parts I think their factory is in las Vegas but that may be wrong. Like anything new proceed with caution.

Who cares... its just money...

i wish i had a 90 size heli period but i can't think of a worse thing to do for my marriage right now since im just shy of 2000 into my 600 that i just finished upgrading to 12s and fbl.

only reason i'd prefer the align head is because its what im used to looking at and working on and it has been proven and i like to keep is simple (stupid).

anyway back to the 90e. my other post was from my ipod touch so it was limited but the frames are amazing the batterys go through one side and strap to the oposite side frame. one on each side. from what ben storick and his dad told us at the funfly the main gears are made of a plastic that is "impreganated" with aluminum so the stripped gears that happen with align constantly are not as frequent.

you can kind of see the frame details from the pics on the avant homepage but not completely. its just a really clean design. they even thought to put 2 screws on the head button to avoid it unscrewing when you stick your hand on it(imo a reverse threaded screw would have fixed it but w/e)

Who cares... its just money...

The Avant heli is much better looking than the Trex, in my opinion. If you're going to spend the big bucks, you might as well get something which will make you really happy. Everyone has a Trex 600, and soon everyone will have a Trex 700. I would rather have something different.

Lol, very funny.

Seriously though, have you flown an Avant head?

Where do you guys get your Avant products? Where's a good online distributer that I can look through their site and compare prices?

Thanks,
Roger

Where to buy?
from my understanding HeliProz and AMainHobbies are where you can pre-order these kits; I pre-ordered from A-Main.

I only need one!

The Aurora is a good machine. From a parts replacement cost perspective, however, it is in a separate universe from the Trex700. Compare, for example, the following common parts:

Spindle: Avant - $12.75 Align - $8.99 (for 2)
Boom: Avant - $42.00 Align - $16.99 (for 2)
Flybar: Avant - $14.95 Align - $7.99 (for 2)
Main Shaft: Avant - $26.75 Align - $17.99 (for 2)
Main Gear: Avant - $30.00 Align - $16.99 (for 2)
Torque Tube: Avant - $28.95 Align - $15.99

Total for Avant parts: $155.40

Total for Align parts: $84.94 for 2 sets. For an accurate comparison, the Align parts would actually be ~$50.50 (half the price of each part except TT since parts all come in pairs). In other words, Avant parts are about 3 times as expensive as their Align counterparts.

Also, I can tell you from experience, while the Avant parts may be high quality, the metal is soft. If you crash on the head you are going to be buying some high dollar head replacement parts.

Nothing wrong with that, but if budget is a big concern, definitely something to keep in mind.

Avant has posted that a pricing announcement is pending, so we'll see if that changes the tune any.

That would be nice if it happens. I remember when part prices were first announced for the Aurora Nitro (months before the kit was ever released) they were much lower than what they ended up being. Hopefully they finally bring the prices down, after all, the platform was always supposed to be "Affordable 3D".

Maybe so, but are there any full metal heads out there that can take a full impact and not get bent up? Not saying there aren't any, but I've yet to see one so far.

There are definitely some that hold up better than others. And parts are usually cheaper to. It all goes back to whether budget is a concern.
