Have kids, neices/nephews, friends? Imagine what their offspring will go through.

Even if you don't have kids, imagine the pain and suffering when the worst happens. There's only a few options to end it...

The peaceful ways:

Cut everyone off - totally unacceptable and I cannot stand to watch the innocent children hurt by it. Any attempt at curbing costs will have to be incremental. Any way you look at it, people will suffer as their lifestyles are stripped.

Allow it to continue - well, this could hardly be peaceful in the long run. Eventually, the takers will outweigh the workers. They would vote anything they want from them and the workers would have no legal recourse since they'd just get outvoted.

So what would you get eventually? Essentially slavery for a little while, followed by a societal collapse when the slaves realize what's being done to them. Maybe a civil war when they revolt since peaceful means are not available to them.

Think this isn't possible? Once that 51% tipping point is reached it could very well be. Right now we're at 48%.

Rome fell, and so will we, if we do not get a handle on personal responsibility.

oh, it will be falling alright. we're almost there now.

enjoy it while you can.

remember, voters do not have to pass an i.q. test. which is why we are where we are.

it's well over 50% now. there are way more dumb ones than smart one out there. we've been there a long time.

not a bright group of folks overall. a handful of winners and a whooooooollllllle bunch of losers. and they all get to vote. enjoy.

after all you know what the 'masses' will do? nothing.

You can't tell me that even though you'll be long gone that you could stand knowing this is a likely future if nothing is done.

an IQ test would be my first test. A very simple, easy test when you register to vote will have a huge effect immediately. At the very least the candidates will know they can't talk down to the voters and have us swallow the bull they're slinging now.

That'll be well accepted.

Not that I disagree, mind you. I think there's a lot of things people shouldn't be allowed to do until they demonstrate some intelligence first.

I remember during the election Howard Stern had one of his guys out interviewing voters. The guy was going up to people asking questions like "what do you think of Sarah Palin, Obama's vice president candidate?"

They would reply, "he's a great guy and I think she'd be a great choice, that's why I'm voting for him."

There should 100% be a test to be allowed to register to vote. I bet people would be shocked at how fast the country would change for the better if that were the case. That will never happen though bc like everything else, it would be turned into a racist law.

sigh... Not enough people really comprehend the concept of social responsibility anymore. I mean, honestly, how many people these days start their days off by thinking about how they're going to make their contribution to society everyday? Too many people are stuck in their own little worlds now a days... Not giving back to society is one thing, but TAKING from it is an equally detrimental trend in today's American society (if not more)... And these people just keep taking and taking until there's nothing left to take.

The issues we deal with are partially a political issue. But make no mistake, the issues we deal with today are PRIMARILY SOCIAL issues. Government and law can only do so much to prevent social abuse from happening. At the end of the day, it's the people as a whole who must step up to the plate and get things going in the right direction.. Blah, this topic's quickly become a political discussion, and I kinda knew it would.

Can't fix
Basically you can't fix it. It would be the equivalent of raising a shipwreck or crashed plane and trying to fix it. Starting from scratch is your only option. The problem is the ship hasn't sunk and the plane hasn't crashed yet but it is in that condition. Stupid analogy but fits.

The only option I see is strict term limits for social benefits. Start at 5 years for current "enrollees" and work your way down to 2 years for new applicants. Spam the crap out of them the whole time with the date there "benefits" will end. After this date, well I am sorry, survival of the fitest. Doing anything other does not advance us as a county or a culture.
