Sorry to hear about your crash. Unfortunately I had a similar incident last year with my 600. A bee landed on my left eye, behind my precption glasses. You will naturally blink or shut your eyes when that happens. I was on the down line of an inverted loop very close to the ground. Big impact. Totaled the helicopter with only the electronics salvaged. I’ve since changed to Oakly rap around sunglasses.

On another item... I have grounded my 470 until I install the tt tail drive. The belt is really causing a problem under heavy loads, making a very distinct and bad sound. This just started recently and everyone who has heard it really thinks it’s a problem. I have the conversion kit so I will install it later this week.

Thanks NQNA. Exact same lesson as you had. I do wear prescription glasses but can see well enough without them, mostly for night time driving. I bought snug, wrap around sun glasses after my first experience with bee's about 6 years ago with a bee crawling under the lens. It doesn't stop them from landing on them and this time it was two bee's, one on each lens at the same time. If there's a way to lawn dart a heli I think I'm close to finding them all. Interesting report about your belt slippage, I have not had any issues, ~ 160 flights before crash which broke the belt so now I have a fresh one on it. The belt brive was one of the many features that attracted me to this one. Please report when you get it going with TT and relay your opinion.

Here is a pic of the tt conversion kit. I have already installed this on my new 500x and it is a straight forward install. The only painful part is filing the frame to accept the new main gear and tail drive unit. A bit of graphite dust!

I’m glad that both my 500x and 470 will be tt!

Thanks for posting the pic. I've seen the kit but since I have had no problems with my belt drive I'll leave well enough alone. My first crash would have cost more with the TT. I do notice that my 470 has more rotating resistence, such as spin down time than my 450 Pro TT's. The drag of the belt is quite noticeable. I'm curious if you report less drive train drag after you get the TT operating IRL.

It will take me a few weeks to do the tt mod. I just had neck surgery so it will be a couple weeks before I’m cleared by the Doc to do any work. I’m sure the resistance will be less with the tt installed.

As you can see I haven’t been on in several months (since the site has been down), but I do want to add some comments on the TT tail drive. This is definitely an upgrade to complete. It does require some frame modifications but they are easy to accomplish. I did mine without any disassemble of the core unit. You do replace the entire tail boom front assembly during this upgrade. The result is a much better tail rotor drive system that removes all of the problems with belt tensioning and screws falling out of the belt tensioners. A++ mod in my book.

Excellent let me ask you, would 6s 1300s be doable? I scored 4 packs for at a steal for my 450 pro. Or if not, what are your thoughts on pack size? Stock servos ok? I’ll be using VBar tooHeli-itis sufferer.

Those batteries will work but flight time will definitely be reduced. I fly a Turnigy nano-tech 1550mah and Align Highpower 1850mah batteries. Flight timer is set at 3:50. This time allows for 20% remaining on the 1550’s and about 30% on the 1850’s. I usually fly the bigger batteries about 30 seconds past the timer for 20% on them. You will just need to adjust the battery placement in the trays for the correct C.G. Multiple slide in trays for each individual battery is desirable.
