Maybe, if you look hard enough, you will find out I did. And if you really pay attention you will see I have only been pinked once in all my time on RR, and other people a whole lot more. I don't roll that way.

From Experience on the R90 the notchy feeling on the blade grip is due to the Thrust bearing installed the wrong way, as long as the radial bearings are smooth and you instal the thrust bearing washer with the bigger hole closer to the rotor hub it would be smooth if you ignore this it always feels notchy.

I've done that too, however there's some variance on the inner hole size of the thrust bearings and feathering spindle. You will get some that rotate freely and others that are tight. But still a valid point!

Very hard to get a thrust bearing the wrong way round given the big difference in the inner bore size. Sure, a thrust bearing will feel notchy if it is loaded too greatly but if it feels ignificantly notchy under static conditions, you have a bad bearing. If you're a regular crasher then use it. Else, get a good bearing.

That doesn't explain why I and another have the same experience. With new dampeners installed, thrust bearings the right way, and good radial bearings(checked beforehand), you still get this notchy feeling because of the side load on the radial bearings.

thrust bearings in the grips
You will get a small amount of roughness out of them when you shim them tight, as some stated pull on the grips and see if there smooth if so you are ok if not then you are over shimmed,Yes you could have some dirt etc etc but this is how i do mine and after a few flights they are seated against the dampeners and will feel smooth
