This is likely gonna be the funniest post here for the old-time MA'ers, but I hear "there is no stupid thing as a bad question"...

I just picked up a set of the high-speed tail gears because my LHS didn't have the 0429 gears (current ones are very worn).

Now, I know that I am supposed to put the larger gear on the TT and the smaller gear on the tail shaft, but I don't fly 3D or perform agressive aerobatics, etc. Would the tail be too slow if I reversed the gears (small on TT, etc) to reduce load on the system? Overdriving the tail seems like it would be a lot of stress on that little gear.

Or am I just worrying for nothing?

yeah , that'd be a rather sad tail !! fit them the way they should go ; you'll find you'll be able to reduce the gyro gain a bit, and have a much better feeling tail to boot!

You need to check the front drive pinion and confirm it's a 16T. If it's not, make sure you put one in. Otherwise, you'll create a 5.5:1 t/r, which accomplishes little more than premature t/r gear wear, unneeded power drain on the driveline, and more noise. The speed up t/r gears alone create a 5.0:1 or so ratio, as much or more than is needed on that model. Make certain you mesh the t/r gears correctly, or they'll live short, unhappy lives.

My front gear is a 16T. The new gears went in great and the tail feels great. Sounds a lot meaner now, too! Thanks for the tips
