Anyone know what the PMW Rate (ESC Switching Rate) is for Hyperions 1400KV motor for the Trex 500?

Model HP-HS3026-1400

Thx!

Hyperions are made by Scorpion, so you can use those stats.

Suggested PWM for their motors is 8 for starters, at least with CC controllers.

Also, Esprit models lists the technical data for all the motors they sell on their website. Scorpion does of course as well.

Thanks Dr. Ben.

You are most helpfull!

As you correctly surmised, it is a CC ESC that I am looking to program.

Dr. Ben:

They list the ESC Switching Freq as 8-16 KHz.

As you probably know, for the CC programming, the available parameter values are 8, 12, 16, 24, and Outrunner.

So what would be the differences between programming a value of 8 vs a value of 12 or 16?

Naturally there would be tradeoffs, but I have no idea what you are trading off and what you are getting with these values.

Can you enlighten me?

Thx

In some cases, you can run a higher PWM and get more power. In many other cases, doign so creates more or excessive heat and the motor may not run as smoothly.

A good deal of real world experience (not just me) with CC controllers and the Scorpion motors has shown that they run the best at PWM 8. Given that Scorpions are not the coolest running motor out there, I would not be inclined to try a higher PWM; the motors make really good power at the lower PWM. Scorpion recommends PWM 8 for their motors.

The outrunner mode didn't work well in earlier firmware iterations. It does now, especially for certain cases. Effectively the ESC modulates the pwm based rpm range of the motor. For most of our heli applications and certainly with the Scorpion motors, the outrunner mode runs with little or no difference compared to PWM of 8. Some guys say it works a little better, some a little worse. I don't think I've read a post for a heli application where there was a night a day difference. You have to remember, too, that some of the ESC's functionality is based on plank applications and making motors run well there. Some of those guys have real challenges getting motors to run smoothly over the entire throttle range.
