Most people these days are going to buy a Trex600N with the OS 50 Hyper. That requires 30%
Dont get me started on nitro content, you do not need 30% at any elevation. Its all in head shims and tuning. No wonder most of the new guys cant afford this hobby, they all feed into the hype. Nothing REQUIRES 30%, thats absolute bullcrap. Ever seen a heli run AND have good power on 5% and 10% nitro? I do it everyday, and yes I do fly 3D. Its not competion level power but if your not a competetor you dont need competetive fuel.....get it?

Its allllll in tuning

FLAME SUIT ON!!

If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.

I was always under the impression that the nitro aided in tuning. I know that the FAI guys run 5% all day long. I know we run 30% Cool Power where I fly, but that's because, THAT is what EVERYONE runs. And since my buddy helps me tune my engine, its sorta the way to go for me. That is one of reasons I am now leaning toward going all electric. It's a lame excuse for not learning to tune, but I have 2 young kids and don't really have the extra time laying around FWIW.

Why not learn how to tune your own engine and run cheap 10%?

If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.

I would hate to ever get rid of my 700 anyways, bout' time I learned. I hear that video from smacktalk is quite informative on how to tune.

Fuel
I run 30% because I like to run my engine a bit cooler, but there is a guy at our field that runs Cool Power 15% fuel(Green) and he flys all over the place 3D or what ever he wants and he flys a Raptor 50 with an OS hyper50 engine. So yes a 50 size engine will run on less than 30% nitro.

My OS50 Hyper runs just fine on 15% cool power. I'm really not into stick banging but do my share of 3D. I have the electrics too that I fly inside. As far as which is best, that's up to you.
