This is my first try with any fiberglass work. The shape was formed from a Caliber5 canopy that was cut in half to form a left and right half.
My first mistake was using bondo fiberglass resin. It was setting up before I could spread it over the cloth resulting in a cellulite looking surface.
Tried smoothing out with more epoxy resin with negative results. Used an electric sander and gave up on that route.
I decided to paint and clearcoat it and not care how rough it looks. After all, its a practice canopy.

I'm happy with my first attempt. Now I Have a much better idea, so it should only get better.
It's no rougher than the pics. The next one will be silky smooth.

Thanks, kev.
I finally got around to making an actual mold. The next one should come out smooth as glass. I'll be making a new can-o-pee today.

Here's the exterior of the mold. Not pretty, but its the inside that produces a smooth can-o-pee.

Here's the left and right interior molds. Smooth as the stock canopy.

Here it is fresh out of the mold :-D
I popped the mold from the fg canopy this morning. Very happy with the results.
Next step is to trim the excess resin from the seam and along the back edge and up around the main mast. Sand, clean, then onto primer and paint.

Nice skills!

FG has always been something I'd like to get into. With skills like mold making and fiberglass, the sky is the limit when it comes to fabrication. Nice job and good luck on your next project!
