I know it sucks but I really don't see any way that you can make that setup work, probably the best thing you can to is throw that motor in the classifieds here and invest in another with a much lower KV.

Throttle curve
If i bring the throttle curve down to say 70 that will bring down the headspeed right? But is it being efficent?

it might fly but that would put a lot of strain on everything and would not be efficient.

200 buck Xera 4030-2.5Y from esprit would do the trick

Yeh! that explains it, CC 110 or better setup with this hot appl. they bump the head down to around 75% like CC wants you too and also they like running the pop and lock HS, which is really tuff on the batteries and very short flight times. 3 to 3 1/2 mins is worthless to me .
for the trex and most ( 85% ) of the pilots out there need a 400 to 500 KV motor and a big pinion with 12S with a max 100% HS of 2200 bumped down to 1900 to 2000! that would give you a good 5 to 6 min flight time with 5000s ma batteries

I might be wrong but i thought Jamie and Nick were running a 1915 1.5y
on 12S. 450Kv.

Try this head speed calc..

http://heli.dacsa.net/CalculatorV2/Default.aspx
Voltage for this calculation (avg):3,6075/cell with a total of 36,075
Nominal voltage: Spoolup RPM 100% throttle no governor (37v): 2664
Avg RPM you will see with 100% throttle and no governor: 2499

Max normal bogging applied you will see RPM at: 2208
(this number should be the minimum if your motor & battery is up for the challenge)

Spoolup with Governor @ 65%: 2246
Spoolup with Governor @ 75%: 2378
Spoolup with Governor @ 85%: 2510

Getting to the main point
Whatever my HS from 2000 to 2400 is this too much HS when doing a tight backflip to pop a link and boom strike in midair?

I'm not sure it was head speed, it's my understanding that a lower head speed will get you a boom strike. As to if it struck the boom then popped the link or popped the link first can't say..
However loose dampening, or too loose a blade bolt could do the same.. It's especailly hard to tell after a crash...
Sorry if i wasn't helpful enough..

Someone with more experience chime in here..

Trying something else
I`m moved the conversion over to a Raptor 90SE i`ve had for a while,

I left the 12 tooth pinion in and will use a 95 tooth main for a ration of 7:91, I know this is a bit high on gearing but just want to see if it works.

Still have the 10S packs but was thinking of trying a 8S setup to bring down the head speed as well as save some weight.

Any thoughs on this?

I`m not
on a tight budget, just hate throwing it away by selling it
(for half or more) or sending it back to Neu to upgrade it cause it will take forever i`m sure..

Did you already have this motor when you where planning and buying parts for your 700e build?

I did a lot of research here and on the HF, which btw had more info on this type of build.

Following recommendations and examples of what others where flying, I got a 470kv motor 115mg and 14t pinion on 12s. Everything works great and I get 6:30 of sport/light 3D flight, putting usually around 72% back in the packs. That's with my CC110hv set up for 1950HS.

Just trying find out how you ended up with a 680kv motor? Most everyone also uses 12s. Never saw anyone recommending or flying more than a 560kv motor for the 700e's.

Sure someone has, but not an optimal setup. Go 12s if you can. HK has 12s 5000 30c's for 79.00 including shipping. I run these exclusively.
