Need a new boom for my 1005. The boom that came with the heli measured 33". In the manual, it is 31.5". Which one should i use. If i went with the 31.5, what size blades?

If I recal correctly 690 blades with 105 tails is all you could get with the 31.5 boom length. but that was a long time ago for me. I'm sure someone can correct me if needed,

33"
I went to the 33" and can swap out blades between the G and the 1005. Since you already have the linkage set up for the 33" I would suggest you stick with it. That way you can run 690's if you want or go to 720's. I personally like the 720's as they seem a little more stable and auto better.

boom
I have a 1005 with a 31 1/2 " boom and run 710 blades with plenty of clearance. Tail blade length is 100 mm, I guess if you ran "real" long tail blades it might hit, they would need to be really long though.
You already have the 33" drive rod in the old boom and your servo rod to the tail pitch control is already set length wise so why change. The longer boom changes the ballance point some, but its not really an issue.
One other thing though the newer (MA 0866-15 I think)replacement main rotor shaft is a little longer than the original (which raises the main blades some) and gives you a little more clearance. Not sure how much but I think is about 3/8 or a 1/4 inch differance. I don't know if you have the old or the new main shaft.
