i guess no one will ever make metal gears for the align ds510 servo.

other than 9650's with added metal gears, what else is out there in the ds510 class that has metal gears? for trex 500.

are there any decent inexpensive metal geared servo's out there for a 500?

or is the 9650 with a metal gear upgrade the only way to go?

Maybe an Airtronics 94819?
It seems like been coming out with a lot of mg servos lately. You'll have to check dimensions. I've never used that servo.

Edit maybe 94820, lots more torque..

510 metal gears
Are these what you're looking for?

I have ds510s on my Protos, and recently went FBL, so I'm going to upgrade to the Align metal gears. Not very cheap, but cheaper than the alternatives.

Hitec 5245's have worked well for me, but get some spare cases. They don't strip gears, but you will occasionally strip out the intermediate shaft boss in the case top. (Only in crashes.)

FYI, Ready Heli seems to be the only place w/ the metal gears in stock, I've been watching and waiting for a couple weeks. Keep trying their site, they moved it yesterday so some people might be having issues.

The Ino-Lab HG-D251MG servos have great specs, but I hear they're a little smaller than others such as the ds510 so you'd probably have to make an adapter or something to fit the T-Rex 500.

They're happily used by lots of people on the Protos which can accept almost any size mini due to it's frame design.

Be careful if you go the DS510MG route. There is NO sacrificial plastic gear in them. Also, if you think the DS610's are notchy, you ain't seen nothin yet! The gears are so crappy that a guy in our club couldn't even keep a hover with them. He resorted to replacing the metal gears with the plastic gear set and all was well.

MKS 9660A+ and 96670A+ utilize aluminum alloy gears, can run on 6vdc too.
