I usually compare my battery milliamp usage to what the charger puts back in, except that the charger always puts in an extra 4-500 more mah than the data logger says the flight used?

Which one is correct in assuming the 80% rule, should I go by the eagletree recorder numbers or what the charger actually puts back into the battery?

They are likely both correct - charging is not 100% efficient and neither is discharge!

The battery is the safe bet. Like Dawson mentioned, charging or discharging is not 100% efficient. You'll never get 100% out of what you put in. The battery is the more conservative number.

Do you use a balancer? That is were the extra milliamps go: while you charge from the discharge lead the balancer applies a load and discharges individual cells that are at a higher voltage on the balancer lead .

It's easy to find an excuse to do wrong. Hard is not to find an excuse to do right.

Very good points. Maybe I will just split the difference between what the data logger says and the charger and call that my usage number.
