I am looking to move up from a TREX 450 and really like the look of the flying mechanics of these Quick brand helis.

Why do you guys like them?

What are some of the things you think are better than all those other dime-a-dozen brands.

I am mostly interested in med-large electrics for now, but do want a big gasser later on for sure.

Any issues with parts availability in the USA?

Thanks to all who reply.

Irwin has all the parts, all the time.
Jon and Irwin provide great back-up support for your purchase.
The parts are very high quality.
You will be flying a heli that allot of people don't have (unique).

Remember, when you build a Quick heli, the parts are made to tight tolerences which means that you have to follow the instructions (allot of people don't) and balance and check the concentricity of everything. And locktite ALL metal to metal fasteners. If you do this you won't be dissapointed.

You will find good and bad comments about QWW. Most of the negative feedback is due to people that didn't follow the instructions and the basic rules of building high end helis. You can get away with allot of inferior assembly techniques with the cheap plastic helis.

Good luck with your new heli, whatever it is.

Jim

No problem with parts at all. I also will re-state what has been said before. You must take your time and build with care and patience. I usually spend a week or more building a Quick heli in my evenings. There is no rocket science involved, but if something is not fitting "right" then chances are you have missed a step in the process.

Some find the helis "heavier" than what is out there now, but one must keep in mind that these are G10 or carbon frames which in most cases are heavier than plastic. QWW could go with a thinner frame in the carbon, but the strenght of the airframe would be comprimised with thinner structures. Also the bearings blocks and 95% of the moving pieces are metal and their respective housings.

Can you 3d a Quick heli?.....yes you can. Is it as fast at 3d as others......yes and no. It's basically not as fast as some of the plastic offerings out there, others, it's right on par, but if you don't crash, your plastic based heli will wear out parts long before the Quick heli will. I say this based on years of flying Hirobos compared to the last 6 years of so of flying Quicks.

The Quick offerings are ideal for F3C/FAI type flying where precision in execution of manuvers is paramount. They are very stable if dialed in that way, but are more than capable of precision aerobatics.

The Quick electrics are fantastic. I have a Fly with 475mm blades that is an absolute little powerhouse. It is for sale if anyone is interested..... I'm just into my gasser now...nothing else for me.

My sugestion if you are a new pilot just getting into larger helis would be to fly whatever helicopter brands the locals around you are flying.

That way they can help you easier with your set ups.

Hey Shuttle pilot,
Can you post some video of QWW helis doing hard core 3-d? Would love to see video of them in action.
I did a quick search on YT and couldn't find any, thought you might have some or links to some...

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Good job Irwin your heli really impressed me and now i am a firm belever that his helis wil fly as smooth as the rest. I hope to have mine in the air by the weekend. Don't believe everything you read on the the pit falls of the QWW helis.

CJames,
I honestly can't do what is considered "3d". I can do boring ol fixed wing type aerobatics. I honestly don't push myself or practice enough to really do 3d. I have too many other interests and I'm easily distracted...........

I did see some video of Curtis doing some very mild stuff with Juan's 50 a couple of years ago. I don't think the heli was broken in yet and you could tell Curtis didn't want to push a new heli that wasn't his.

There are some guys out there that say they do FAI and some 3d with their Quicks, but no one ever produces any video..........

I'll practice up and see if I can get something together for you.....but you might have to wait a while....lol

In the mean time, if anyone out there is able to do some video of your quicks flying 3d, 2d, 1d....whatever.....film it so there can be some new footage of the helis flying.

That was pretty mild flying for calling it "3-d." I know it was"O-P-P" so Curtis was taking it way easy on Juan's heli, but I would like to see some hard prioflips and tail slides into a quick kaos, ya know, Stuff like that! Just to see what kind of torture the quick helis can take from heli guys

Maybe Irwin could ask Henry Caldwell or Bobby to wring one out at Ircha for him!

It is a very reasonable request, however, anyone that has followed the posts on the QWW forum knows it ain't gonna happen.

Not pulling anything??
Sorry if you took offense smallplanes, I think that is a reasonable request for any heli manufacture that claims their brand as one of the top brands out there. This is nothing against Quick,
I mean this question for all the top brands, Align, Miniture, Robbe, Bergen, Rave, JR, Century IF a manufacture claims to have the "best" then there is nothing wrong with someone asking them to "prove it".

I do not mean disrespect with that statement, If I made a like product and I claim its the best or can run with the best, and then someone asks me to prove it,
Then I would welcome the chance.

Smallplanes,
I don't buy a helicopter just because some Jock of a pilot is flying it, in fact that is a turn off for me because I realize that heli is going to cost me more because that guy is flying it,

However, I buy a heli because of what it can do and how well it flys and how much it costs.

But before I buy any heli I want to know what it can really do. I want proof.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Have you ever bought a Trex 700 of of a video or did you go buy what some one told you? I'm going to get get my bat flying by this weekend but the motor is new so i will have to take it easy. I'm no hard 3 der so i can't show you what it will do but i do plan on video tapeing me flying it and i'm going to try a figure out how to put it on you tube and i can a least show you it 's a good flying heli. I got one of Irwins 27.2cc mod motors so in have to break it in before i can get a buddy of mine to film it. But i have such bad luck i will probaly crash trying to make a video. I'm trying to get up with shuttlepilot and fly with him this week end and show that it will do some 3d, it might do more but i'm not capable of doing more. Just don't knock it until you have tried it. One thing i can say about QWW if you need a part he has them instock at all times.

Thanks
Ivan
