After much searching I have decided the TREX500 is the best machine to get back into RC Heli's. Can those of you who have experience with this helicopter offer advance as to which radio would be a good option for a novice (inexpensive, but not cheap...if you know what I mean) as well as which battery you are using or I should get? I dont necessarily need brand names for battery, I am looking for the C rating and the mAH ratings.

Thanks.

Agree that DX7 is a great TX. DX6 is also a great setup and less cost. If you are not looking at anything requiring the 7th channel, that should help the decision.

Go with the dx7. You will like the feel of it. The dx6 feels like a toy for some reason.

+1 on the DX7. I have a DX6i from a RTF kit I got. It's not a horrible radio but should you ever look into nitro having that 7th channel will really help you out. Plus, not including used prices, and others can correct me if I'm wrong. But a Tx Only DX6i is like 130$ give or take, and the Tx only DX7 is like 200-220-ish.

Oh and as a side note, get the heli version. It can also fly planes should you ever become interested. The main difference between DX7-Air, and DX7-Heli to my knowlege is some of the switches are in different places.

I love my flying lawn mowers!

The DX7 is definitely a great choice and one of the most popular radios out there. I'm not sure what the lowest price is that you can pick up a DX7 for, but I'm assuming around the $300 mark???

Anyways... as with most of us, once you get a Trex 500, soon your fleet will begin to grow and you'll be getting more helis. At that time, your DX7 would definitely still suit you just fine, but I would also take a look at the new Airtronics SD-10G. You can get one for around the $350 mark and, even though they're not the most advertised, they're definitely a great radio. They continue, after all these years, to offer the lowest latency of ALL manufacturers, and offer alot for the $$.

Personally, I do not use an Airtronics (just in case anyone thinks I'm a rep for them or something), as I use the JR 9303... but I started out on an Airtronics when I was a young teenager just getting into RC and I had their radios for many, many years and they were always good flying Tx's, IMO. Over time, they lost their popularity to JR and Futaba, but they have recently come out with their 2.4 technology and I know a few pilots that use their stuff and they love it.

Either way... it doesn't hurt to give it a look, but no matter what you choose, with today's technology, you'll be getting a decent Tx that will suit you well for the 500.

As far as radios go"the more you can afford is usually better". mainly because of what it does and that is to handle your baby for you. Who wants to have a cheap radio for such an expensive machine. As for electronics you dont want o spend a bunch of money on a system you will likely outgrow. Only to have to spend more later for one more compatible. My preferance is futaba cause you can asign diffrent functions to diffrent switches, rather than "x" switch does "this" and thats it.
I think about the biggest batt is around 2600-2650 mAh that will fit under the canopy. I use 2600 6s 35c hyperion works great.

Which radio for Align T500
I agree with Dirthead get the most radio you can afford it's the best way to go.. After reading about all the radio's out there I chose the Futaba's 8FGH. I won't be upgrading for a long time if ever. I bought my used Rave 450 then started saving for the Futaba. It took about two months but I think it will be worth it. It was also a long two months having a helicopter but no radio.

Futaba 8FGH,pro level features at a sport price.it will be a LONG time before you outgrow that radio.FAR more extensive programming than a DX7.It actually a 10 ch radio 8 proportional and 2 digital.many of the features it has are found on radios in the 1000 dollar+ range

for batts get something in the 2500-3300mah range at least 30C

you are gonna need a good lipo charger for 6s batts too,i recommend the Cellpro10S

Another vote for the Futaba 8FGH.After this happend to my Spektrum DX7 https://rc.runryder.com/t580604p1/ im saving the $$ for the Futaba 8FGH .Don't get me wrong because the DX7 is a nice radio but when somthing like this happens and you can't fly for 2 weeks it sucks .

I fly my TRex 500 with a DX7 (great radio).
As for batteries, I use Turnigy 3000 mAh 25Cs.
I get about 11 minutes of sport flying.
You will love the 500!!
