Have any of you guys ever had a deviated septum surgery? I'm scheduled for Friday afternoon surgery, while hoping to return to work on Monday morning. Do you think this will be pushing it....

Depends on what you do at work. I was down a week with the Doc saying 2 weeks down min....but....

I had a tonsillectomy, rhinoplasty, deviated septum, and nasal polypectomy all done at the same time.

You may be ok, but the office will not like the first scab shed. It is not pleasant for both them and you.

Good luck.

Wait..what!?!?! No, that can't be!

Depends on how extensive it is. I had it done last year and they did some minor cleaning out of one of my sinuses. It truely sucked for the first 3 days. Do you know when your doctor plans to remove the splints? You will probably want to stay home until that is done. Once the splints are removed you will start to feel better and better after each day.

I believe mine was done Wed, had the splints removed Friday and was back at work Monday. I would probably make the necessary arrangements to be out Monday as well and go to work if you fell up to it. If your job involves any physical exertion, lifting, or bending then no way. You will be restricted for at least a week depending on how well it went. I think the limit I was given was nothing over 10 pounds for the first week to 10 days.

I'm a bulldozer operator, and coming off of winter layoff. So taking off work the first week back probably won't be a good idea if you know what I mean.

I'm going for my exam today, and already have a scheduled surgery for Friday afternoon, as I told them it had to be this week. My family doctor says 95% of the nostril is closed.

From what they briefly told me, recovery is 1-2 weeks....

Yup, there telling me major discomfort for 1 week, and no work. They will install splints in my nose. I'm praying for a rain delay for all of next week, cuz I'm scheduled for work.

Gosh I hope these headaches go away, and I wake up feeling refreshed every morning....

And wear a shirt you don't care about. The doc took my splints out and asked if I was okay. Before I could say yes blood came pouring out of my nose like a faucet. Needless to say I wasn't okay after seeing that

So I've been living with what I think is a deviated septum for years. Took a big hit to the schnozz in college playing backyard football and have never been able to breathe through my nose right ever since. It's like I can only breathe through one side at a time generally.

After reading all of this though, I can't say I'm chomping at the bit to go and have it fixed

I don't believe that, as I have read other stuff on the Internet about this procedure and your guys statements are on par with the pros.

I'm under the knife at 10:00 am Friday morning.....

Actually, they rarely pack anymore. So that is probably not a concern.

Wait..what!?!?! No, that can't be!

My main concern is reporting into work Monday morning. Nothing like operating Heavy Equipment high on pain pills....

Good luck with the surg bud! BTW the label on those pain pills specifically states "DO NOT OPERATE HEAVY MACHINERY" so don't be running anything bigger than a D-8
