Ok, I've been looking at what people are using for tail servo-gyro combination. I ordered and received a gy520. I opens the servo box an the instructions state it can only be used wit a gy 601 or 611

Any opinions?

Thanks

What it means is the BLS 251 can only be used with 760uSec compatible gyro's (like the GY601, GY611, and GY520).

As rc3po stated, the Futaba packaging is just way out of date. If you look on the back of the servo case is will also say "Ni-Cd Use Only". Yeah, we know that's out of date!

I have used the Futaba 520 gyro with a BLS251 servo. It's my favorite combo right now.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

About to install the gy520, I see nothing in the manual that shows me that this is directional and that it must be mounted with a " Front"

any help???

it's not directional. there is no 'front' or 'back'.

as long as the top of the case is either pointing purely up or down (ie. you haven't mounted the unit on it's side), you're good to go.

I had two gy520s crap out on me. I now run spartan and love them, I find the spartans to be more durable and easier to setup. My 600 has been plowed into the ground very hard a couple of times and the gyro needed no attention. I had one small crash with the 520 and it flew in a constant piro. Go spartan just my two cents

I never had any problems with the 520. Solid feel but I have never tried the Spartan gyros.

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

BLS251 with a B6T and GY520
Anyone run this combo on the straight 5.8 volts regulated. I ditched the stepdown after a crash where I lost tail control. I measured the volts off the stepdown with a load and it was 3.8 volts! I can only assume the servo stalled as the gyro and servo work fine now without. The question is for how long?

BLS251 is 4.8V only which usually means at most 5.2V regulated. Haven't heard of them running at 6V.

when they say 4.8 they are still referencing the old 4 cell nicad style pack. A regulated system at 5.8 is fine. I have been using them that way for years.

Futaba specs rate 4.8 ( nicad) to 6.0 (dry cell or alkaline) I know alot of guys that use LIFE batterys with no issues. The problem with lipos ( 2cell) or a123's is the peak charge voltage.

So running a BLS251 off a 2S lipo regulated to 6V would be OK? (long term)
