What battery are you folks using in your 500's? I'm specifically interested in 5S vs 6S, #C's (what ever that is), and mAH.

Thanks

Ive found theres a big price jump from 4s packs to 5s, but 6s is pretty much the same price, try and 6s if possible 2500 mah to 3300 mah.
I would think the 500 will fly fine on 5s packs, I had a 500 size heli that ran on 4s packs and it was not to bad.

i think the most common setup on a 500 is a 6s pack around 2500-3000 like spitfire said. gives tons of power and you can get alot of different motors for the 6s setup used or new. if i remember right i think the original align 500 prototype was on 4s

Who cares... its just money...

I had a hdx 500 on running on 4s 3700`s, the power was not as good as a trex 500 on 6s but it was by no means underpowered, put it this way, it was alot better than a Trex 600 on 6s.

The only problem was that the packs got so hot they could burn your hand and got fat and puffy very quikly.

I dont see any reason to go 5s as its just the same amount of money, but I think with the right gearing there would not be all that much difference in power, cant say Ive seen one on 5s to back that up but I think it would be good, just cant see any reason to when its all geard up for 6s anyway.

6s 3000mah will be fine for general sport flying.
As you lower the cell count the current will have to increase to maintain the same power output, ie. (heat)

The big thing with the 500 is weight. IMHO you need to get the biggest pack you can get at round 2500Mah 30C(or more) 6s and around **400g** on a normal setup with a stock 500M motor or a scorpion. The HobbyKing packs are way heavier than the Flightpower, Thunderpower, Hyperion lipos, so on my 500 I'm done with the HobbyCity stuff. Check the weight on the pack your looking at and try to keep the weight down. I've flown the heavy packs from HK and the high-end lipos, so for me Hyperion is the way to go. My 500 chewed up a 40c pack from HK and I wish I would have just gotten good ones from the beginning. I fly hard and that's why I recommend these lipos. If your a beginner or just put-putn around you can get away with heavier packs and longer flights, but for stick banging they wont hold up, and the 500 doesn't like the extra weight. The guys that are running 3000-3300 from HK must be doing basic stuff because the extra 100grams+ is not good on this machine...
Again this is just my opinion, I do own the 500ESP, and have tried several packs, but everyone flies different and has different goals. I rather spend $100 on a good pack than to get two $50 packs that puff up after a 4 1/2 minute flight while still having plenty left in them.
